the cars on ttie train being ditched and
completely wreekisl The eriKlner of
the train, Natl Hager, of Albany, and

Chris Wagner, of Albany, and Mall
Clerk Porter and if. J. McCarthy tro
injureu.
This Is the second attempt within
throe weeks to wreck the name train
near the suns fpol, Which Is an Ideal
one for the commlnslon vt fuch a crime.
It Is on a heavy down grade, and train
usually run down It at the rate of elxty
flve miles an hour. Thin train, not stop
ping at Rome, generally goes down the
grade at a yrct. rate of spewd and It is
belleted here to-day that it must hate
been running rltsv- to seventy-five milts
an hour in order to make up a few
minutes loot time. There is not a houso
within half a mile of th'j plare.
The wreckers broke Into the section
tool house and stole ome tools, with

The train left this city at 3.30 o'clock.
It consisted of four mall cars ond three
sleepers. Ther were eleven iKtal clerks
and fourteen pansengers aboard, besides
the members of the crew. When the
crah came the engine was thrown from
thp track Into the dtu h and completely
submerged in the mud, only the driving
w heels on the left vide bting above the
earth. The cars were piled up pro
miscuously. engineer Hager Went down with his
engine and mot hate ber-n Instantly
killed The llreman, Chris Wagner, was
badly Injured about the head and it is
feared that he te Internally hurt. The
two trampH who were found dead are
supposed to have been stealing a ride on
the forward end of the llrst mail car

John Illldreth and rrederiek Bristol,
two boys have be,-n arrested by the
Central Hudson detectives at Rom",
charged with wrecking the train After
the arrest young Hlldr-th broke down
and confessed that lie and Rrlstol, in
company with two other boys named
Herbert Plato and Theodore nthKard
had broke open the tool house and with
the aid of tools thus secured had re
moved the fishplates from the rails.
