R. F. Deyo and C. R. Miller of
Lvford made a short visit to Browns
ville by auto, returning home yes
terday. Mr. Deyo is an ardent
good roads advocate and is exert
ing himself in behalf of the Frisco
Good Roads campaign. Mr. Deyo
reports a fairly good auto road all
the way from from Brownsville to
Lvford.

will meet tomorrow morning for the

New Candidate for Marshal—An
dres Uresti yesterday filed "his pe
tition to be placed upon the official
ballot in the next city election, as
an independent candidate for the of
fice of city marshal. The petition
had 87 signatures.

docket in Justice of the Peace Gav
ito’s court. The docket contained
no important suits and tTTe amount
involved in almost every case was
very small.
Three cars of cabbage will be
shipped from here today, one of the!
cars will be leaded here, one at Lit
tle Indiana and one at Blalack's
spur. A car was shipped by the as
sociation yesterday.

The awning in front of the Bar
ber building on Elizabeth street, at
present occupied by the First Na
tional Bank, is being drawn in to
comply with the city paving lines.
New Picture Show—The store
room at 1217 Elizabeth street form
erly occupied by H. E. Barnes’ pool
hall is being remodeled for the pur
pose of housing a new moving pic
ture theatre to be run by E. A. Fox
and son, A. C. Fox, formerly of San
Antonio and Houston. The work
men are now busy tearing out the
front of the building and reenforc
ing it with brick and iron girders.
An attractive glass front will be
put in. A. C. Fox is now here over
seeing the work. He expects his
father to arrive today.

Elks nave called a special meeting
of the lodge at the local club rooms
this evening for the purpose of mak
ing arrangements to tender a recep.

The freight receipts yesterday
were: five cars of gravel, one of
sand, four of merchandise and two
of wood.
Found it Cold in Canada—Mr
and Mrs. A. B. Walker have re
turned from a five weeks trip through
the northern states and Canada.
They tell of the prevailing cold
weather in those parts and how they
were snowbound for four days in
the little town of Norwich. Canada.
After purchasing a quantity of
stock in Chicago and" various other
northern cities they came back to
their home in BrowTisviTTe.
Comes to Locate—Dr- Cole
brother of Rev. Emmet Co7$, pastof
of the first Baptist church, has' ar
rived and will locate h?Te. Dr. Cole
is a practicing physician and will
establish himself in hi3 profession
