Frank Rabb returned yesterday after a short visit to Mrs. Rabb at San Antonio, where she is spending some time for the benefit of her health. Mr. Rabb reports Mrs. Rabb as very much improved ,jn health. QUICKNESS OF QUICKSILVER. Brownsville Business Man Has an Interesting Experience Attempt ing to Warm Thermometer. It was yesterday morning that M. Ranzeau at the Texas Confectionery had rather an unpleasant experience with a thermometer. On exmaining the mercury in the slender glass tube he noticed that the fluid had 4!>l»earently congealed, thus form ing a break in the fluid. After try ing to shake the same together, he tried heating to n^ake the liquid run, but when the match was ap plied the glass bursted, throwing flaming bits of mercury over his head and hands. Mr. Ranzeau says that he is now well aware of the fact that the mercury in the glass tube of a ther mometer is quicksilver and that it will burn. And says that he does not care to experiment with a ther mometer in a like manner again. Freight Receipts. Pharr of Olivier, La., have been here the past two days on business in connection with the Louisiana Rio Grande Canal company, in which both are heavy stockholders.
