Philips, a planter on ^he La Feria canal, was a visitor in town Saturday. A. A. Anderson, with the Star Land company, Des Moines, Fowa, was in the city yesterday. Jas. \V. lloit left yesterday on a short trip to Mexico City, where he goes on important business. Mrs. R. Harris and children, who have been visiting here, left yester day for their home in Oklahoma. R. H. Senter left for Rio Hondo yesterday morning, on business for the Brownsville Growers’ Associa tion. Attorney W. R. Jones left yester day for Carthage, Texas, his former home, where he will try a personal injury case. \V. E. Willis, who has land inter ests in the Valley, has gone to San Antonio, where he will spend a few weeks. J. B. Black of Joplin, Mo., is a prospector who was in Brownsville Saturday. Mr. Black is very much pleased with the Valley and thinks lie will buy some land here. W. A. McXelll, formerly of Santa Maria, hut now of San Antonio, was here Saturday with some home seekers. Mr. McXeill expects to spend several days in the Valle/. San Benito Notes. To The Herald. San Benito, Tex., March 24—The Porter building on the Boulevard is rapidly nearing completion. The upstairs of this building vvil be used as an annex to the hotel, and the lower story will be occupied by Mc Chesney Bros. The other new buildings in this immediate neighborhood, are the two bricks of the San Benito Loan & Investment (5o., and that of Mr. Suite. The lat ter are being put up by Mystrom Brothers and Melvin iBryant, local contractors. Mr. and Mrs. Josie have moved into an attractive new dwelling on the Boulevard in the Landrum Ad dition. James Rogers has just finished two new houses in the northeast part of the city. One of these will be occupied by Mr. Rogers and his family. Tom Howard is just finishing a large new residence in the Heywood Addition. A new firm here is the Valley Plumbing company. This is a branch of the Brownsville house. C. L. Jessup formerly with a prominent real estate firm is the local mana ger. T. E. Satterfield, a local elec trical contractor is to have his of fice with the same firm. Silo for South Texas Gardens. The Department of Agriculture Is going to make experiments with en silage for the feeding of milch cows in combination with their cacti feed ing experiments. Russell of Guthrie Center, who came to Brownsville about ten days ago is enthusiastic in his praises of this country, most especially its climatic conditions. Mr. Russell, who is a G. A. R. veteran, by the way, has spent several winters here, and says 'that he has decided to have his family leave the snow-clad north and seek this more agreeable clime. Phone 42. 1-10-t Progressof Paving—Though the streets of the business setior) of Brownsville are pretty well torn up, a par, of the area can soon be called paved. Many men and teams are engaged in plowing and hauling j away surface dirt. Huge piles of sand , gravel and cement are piled at the corner of Elizabeth and 10th street, near the postofffce. Here the big machine stands, being fed with raw material and turning out a stream of mixed concrete into the wagons in waiting. Elizabeth street is blocked now from 10 t» 13-th streets. The street car tracks are already laid over this area, while the concrete is all laid preparatory to the placing of wood blocks from 1 2th to 13th street. United in Marriage. Last Friday evening at R o’clock, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. L. R. Burress in West Brownsville, Miss Lee McKinney and Charles L. Mc Caslin were united in the holy bonds of matrimony, by Dr. Burress. No one witnessed the ceremony except Mrs. Burress. The bride wore her travelling costume, a pretty brown suit, and to the loving friends who saw her at this crowning momen' of her life, she looked beautiful. It was known to their friends tha. the young couple were engaged to be married, but the wedding was quite a surprise, as they unexpected ly decided to be married^ at this time. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McKinley of West Brownsville. She has been univer sally admired and beloved by her circle of friends here, and all "wish for her and the man of her choice a long and happy wedded life. Mr. McCaslin formerly resided in Brownsville, but is now located at Seadrift. Texas, where he is engaged in the real estate business.
