It will require 266 electoral votes to choose a President, and 178 must be conceded to Governor Wilson at the outset. These 178 votes are rep resented by the States of Alabama. Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana. Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Car lina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Ten nessee, Texas and Virginia. That makes It necessary for Gov ernor Wilson to win S8 out of the remaining 3.73 electoral votes. Twenty-nine of them can be found in New Jersey and Indiana, which are sure to go Democratic. Fifty-two more can be found in New York and Connecticut, which are reasonably certain to go democratic. Nebraska, with 7 votes, would give Governor Wilson the necessary majority. But Demoeratic prospects are much bright^ than this. Mr. Bryan car ried Colorado and Nevada in 1908. Govenor Wilson is likely to carry them thi1! year, with the addition of North Dakota. These three States have 14 electoral votes. Wilson's chances In Ohio are better than Taft's or Roosevelt’s and Ohio has 24 votes. Senator Gardner predicts that Wilson will carry Maine, with 6 votes, and nobody famaliar with political condi tions in that State can regard this as an idle boast. In addition. Demo cratic prospects in Massachusetts are as great as any other prospects and they are anything but discouraging In Pennsylvania. Massachusetts has 18 electoral votes and Pennsylvania has 38. Any reasonable calculator based on the existence of a Republican par ty would give Wilson more than 300 electoral votes, but with the Repub lican party shot to pieees it 1s a ques ion whether the warring Taft-Roose velt forces will save anything of va lue from the wreck.—New York World. -* HANGS OUT HIS OWN CRAPE.
