Several Brownsville young men are trying the open air treatment for their hair, and refuge to wear a top piece, rain or shine. There were nine cars, mak ing one special train as against two trains for the last three trips, and they carried probably 125 passen gers. The special pulled out yester day afternoon at 2:45. An average business Is reported for the trip. The manager of one concern stated that he expected a better business for his firm during the coming season than has ever been done before. Other men are also optimistic as to the business that will probably be done during the next few months. -* RELEASED UNDER SMALL BOND Last of Four M'-'xico-Texano* Who Were Arrested in Matamoros. Pedro Saldana, the last of the four men arrested in Matamoros last Monday on charges of having as saulted Pancho Blanca, was re leased from the Matamoros prison Saturday. He was given his liberty on a small bond. Dario Cortez was released earlier in the week on a bond of $50, and Vicente and Felipe Davila, also ar rested on the same charge, were ac quitted therefrom. It is not known as yet when Sal dana and Cortez will be tried. ..- - O - ' TO INSTALL NEW PHONE SWITCHBOARD Work on the installation of the new telephone apparatus is to begin at the new exchange in the Steg man building this week. E. A. Hug gins, installing man for the Western Electric Co. of St. Louis, has ar rived in Brownsville to take charge of the work, and this week expects «?o have five or six men on the job. Mr. Huggins came to Brownsville from Clarksville, Tex., where he has just completed the installation of a newt switchbord; how'ever, not so modern equipment as that in the new exchange for this city. Mr. Huggins is awating the ar rival of the specifications, without which he can do no work. He ex pects them at any time, and says that the new equipment will be in stalled within the next sixty days. Though his firm will install the new swi'chboard and make the necessary connections there, the outside line w'ork and subscribers’ telephone changes will be done by the tele phone company. Manager Gerald Johnson of the local exchange of the Southwestern Telephone and Telegraph company, is quite pleased with the prospect of the new- exchange. He assures the subscribers that whatever troubles they may be having with the system now' w'ill all be ended when the new exchange is in working order. -* ALLEGED AFFRAY RESULT OF MATAMOROS ROW David Hernandez, Miguel and Jesus Lerma, and Felipe Davila were arrested by Marshal Tucker and Deputy Marshal Puig Saturday, and placed in jail, charged with being en gaged in an affray. Their cases will come up in the corporation court this morning. The Lermas are nephews of Pancho Blanca who, it is alleged, was assaulted by Felip« Davila and others at a race track near Mata 1 moros las<t Monday. The police be lieve that the Saturday affray was a direct result of the Matamoros affair last week. SHED FOR HANDLING BROWNSVILLE TRUCK To be Shipped by Rio Grande and Gulf Coast A*s’n — Brownsville Ass’n No Longer Ships Produce. The Rio Grande and Coast Asso ciation, an agency for the handling of garden truck for its members, will soon have a shipping shed at the Brownsville passenger station. The membership of the association has been increased by the addition of members who formerly shipped through the Brownsville Growers’ Association, the latter organization having discontinued this branch of its work. The shed will be erected just to the rear of the express office, and will be of frame construction. A platform will be built to the main track so that the stuff can be handled direct from the shed into the express cars. Secretary Lindsay Waters of Har lingen, who is secretary of the Rio Grande and Coast Association, wras here last week and arranged with Assistant General Manager Wm. Doherty of the Gulf Coast Line for the construction of the shed. Freight Receipts. Freight receipts were light Satur day and included two cars of mer chandise, 'three cars of beer, two cars of lumber, one car of corn, one car of iron bars, a car of ties, and a car of horses. _m_ LIGHT NORTHER AND RAIN Amarillo's Cold Wave Makes Pleas ant Weather Here. By Sunday morning heavier coverings than sheets were in order, and according to reports about the streets yesterday morning some sleepers rolled up snugly. Pleasant evenings and nights are anticipated from now on. Amarillo's 4 8 degrees will be a decided con tract to the balmy weather that Brownsville is likely to have within the next few days. -o In Justice Court.
