SHIPMENTS OF VALLEY CLIMB ■ — 1 111 — ■ Make Gain of 5G0 Cars On 1928 Movement Since Jan. 19 . Climbing steadily toward a new high reeerd, Valley fruit and vege table shipments today were only 42 cars behind the record for the cor responding date last year. Since January 10, when the season's total was 660 cars less than that for the same date in 1928. the total has gained daily, and by February 1 is expected to exceed the record of 1926. February and March shipments are expected to be far heavier than last season, and the final total for the season will run around 25,000 cars, shippers predict. The movement to date includes 1,095 cars of fruit and 6,321 of veg etables, a total of 4,416, as com pared with 996 cars of fruit, 3,460 of vegetables, a total of 4,456 at the same date last year. The principal gain is shown in the movement of mixed cars, which cen stitute approximately 60 per cent of the vegetable total, over 1,400 mixed cars having been moved. Cabbage ranks second with 611 cars, and beets and carrots third with 701 cars. The latter mixtures of the two commodities. Weslaco went into the lead among Valley shipping points last week with a total of 655 cars, and Mercedes is aclose second with 626 cars.
