FARMER FIGHTERS AID FEDERALS ALONG BORDER As in Matamoros. agrarians have been stationed in Juarez, across from El Paso, to aid the Mexican federals in their fight against the rebels. The above photo shows the farmer army under Manuel Prieto as they took over Juarez. Approximately 60 of the agrarians are in Matomoros. They are aiding the state police in coping with the Chauffeurs’ union strike. HUSBAND NEVER SOBER ST. WORK STARTED ATYOUNGTOWN _ Clear Five Hundred Acres For Cultivation At San Perlita RAYMONDVILLE. April 20.—(/P> —Considerable activity in develop ment work is under way at San Perlita, a new town on the Missouri Pacific Lines extension to the southeastern part of Willacy coun ty, according to Charles R. John son, presid»nt of the San Per lita Development company. According to Mr. Johnson, five hundred acres of land near the new town is being cleared and will be subdivided and put into culti vation in the near future. During the past week one hundred acres of land have been set out in citrus trees, and twenty blocks were set out in palms, oleanders and crepe myrtles. Land along the roadway into the town has been beautified by planting trees, shrubs and flow ers. A new dry goods store opened in the town during the past week, and a restaurant is being opened by J. R. Gray, proprietor of the American Cafe in Raymondville. A short time ago, the second grocery store for the town was opened by Ray Cheney. ' San Perlita is ten miles east of | Raymondville, and is reached by a concrete paved highway, which is on a direct line to Red Fish Bay, to which point the road will be extended according to plans. A large number of farms are al ready in operation in that section, end the land is as fertile and eas ily cultivated as any to be found in the Valley. RADIO EXAMINER TO BE HERE ON MONDAY Theodore G. Deiler, federal radio inspector for the 8th naval district, with headquarters at New Orleans, is to arrive here Monday and will on that day conduct examinations for commercial and amateur radio licenses. The examinations will be held at the postoffice building and will1 open at 9 a. m. Mr. Deiler has offered to consult with radio fans while here on plans to eradicate local interference. LT. EDMUNDS ORDERED TO MARYLAND SCHOOL First Lieutenant James B. Ed munds of Fort Brown has been or dered to report to the Motor Trans port school at Camp Holabird, Md., effective some time in September. Lieut. Edmunds has been sta tioned at Fort Brown for approxi mately two years. I CROWD ATTENDS GET-TOGETHER Bowie of San Benito Cheer ed As He Tells Aims of Twin City Meetings ^Special to The Herald) HARLINGEN, Apirl 20.—“It is not San Benito and Harlingen against I the world, but to ge the two cities ' together so they can do together for the Valley,” explained James C. Bowie, chairman of the San Benito delegation at the Harlingen San Benito get-together held at the i Rees-Wil-Mond hotel here Thurs day night with a large attendance of enthusiastic citizens from both cities. Mr. Bowie, during the course of his speech, which was probably the feature of the night's program, expressed amazement at the re sponse which had been met from the citizens of both San Eenito and Harlingen regarding the get-to gether meeting and its aims, adding that the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce had initiated the idea in a most informal manner but that a strong interest had accompanied the taking up of the idea by the people of San Benito and Harlingen. Mrs. Herren of Harlingen made a short talk during the meeting which was greeted with much applause and enthusiasm. “We stand ready to co-operate and are heart and soul in the movement and ready to do our utmostshe stated. A general discussion was also held regarding the immediate questions | to be dealt with by the newly ap pointed joint advisory board made up of three citizens from Harlingen and three from San Benito. The Harlingen members of the board are A. L. Brooks, John Myrick and H. L. Starnes; and the members from San Benito are John T. Lomax, L. L. Zenor and J. M. Jones. Ex-Service Men To Hold Get-Together Meet Here April 25 A general get-together of all ex service men in this section is to be held by the John Hanson post of the American Legion at the Elks Hall here Thursday evening begin ning at 8 o’clock. Perhaps the most far-reaching subject to be brought up for dis cussion will be that of construction of a Legion hall here. No definite arrangement has been made in trus connection but tne Legion’s attitude toward such a project will be sound ed out. Formulation of a junior Legion baseball loop also will be brought before the body. These leagues are in operation all over the United States. Only youths of 17 and un der are allowed to play. This sub ject will be presented by A. L.
