LIONS TROUNCE PENTAGONCREW Pumarejo, Mercedes Holds San Benito Lads To One Hit, No Runs MERCEDES, June 10.—Faustino Pumarejo held the C. P. and L. Pen tagons to one lonely single and the Mercedes Lions eked out a 2-0 vic tory over the San Benito team yes terday afternoon on the Mercedes diamond. Pumarejo and Moncus hooked up in one of the neatest pitching duels witnessed in Valley baseball circles this year, and the game is credited to Pumarejo on account of his steadiness in the pinches for many times during the game the Pent agons had men on base and at times have some as far as third. Puma rejo sent 14 of the Pentagons back to the bench via the strike out route and Moncus Is credited with eight victims. The Pentagons were forcer! to play minus the services of their Cap tain Lew Williams and the absence of their manager who are in Gal veston. A. S Higgins was in charge of the San Benito team. West Indian Governor Captured, Then Freed By Mysterious Group WILLEMSTAD. Curacao. Dutch West Indies, June 10.— T’—The governor and garrison commander of Curacao. Dutch West Indian Isle, were back in Willemstad today after an adventure rivaling the extrava ganzas of the Spanish main. Information was sparse, but it ap peared that a body of armed men. alleged to be Venezuelan national ists, Saturday night took charge of the waterfront, -maintaining com plete mastery of the docks for sev eral heurs. Several police were killed and others wounded in an at tempt to oust them. Finally the governor, the garrison commander and several soldiers were placed rboard the small steam- i er Maracaibo of United States reg- , istry. The ship put out to sea and j to an unannounced destination. Last evening the Maracaibo re turned to port with the governor | general and garrison commander aboard. They said that captors had landed some miles north of La Vela. Venezuela, about 200 miles west of Caracas, capital of the country. The Maracaibo was left in their hands for return. The general explanation was that the men. said to be led by a Gen eral Uhbina. planed some sort of a movement in Venezuela and took the officials here with them to pre vent reprisals until they landed on the mainland. Nothing has been j heard here of the sequel in Vene zuela. CLOVIS. N. M.. June 10.—(/Pi—J. Fred Anton, superintendent of the New Mexico division of the Santa Fc railroad, died here today. June 10— Sixty men. representing Valley shippers, railroads and manufacturers of packing crates for fruits and veget ables were conferring at the Reese Wil-Mond hotel here today seeking to reach an agreement on standard and uniform boxes for use In this section. The meeting was being presided over by C. D. Bordelon, assistant general freight agent of the Mis souri Pacific lines, with the assist ance of C. H. Wilson, employed in the same capacity with the South ern Pacific. Both men are from Houston. in addition to representatives of the manufacturers, the Interstate Commerce commission is represent ed by J. A. Lawson of the service bureau of that organization. If all interests agree on a pack for Valley fruit and vegetables a recommendation will be made to the interstate commerce commission for adoption. A report of the ses sion will be made In any event by Lawson. No agreement was expected to be reached before late today. Drum Corps Meets — A social meeting of the American Legion bugle and drum corps will be held at 7:30 p. m. Monday at the Legion hall. The corps will hold their reg ular practice session later.
