Eddie Dowling, "Broadway s Fa
vorite Son." who is credited by his
friends with never having been as
sociated with a "nop" production on
the stage, seems to have carried
this personal tradition to the silver
sheet, in his first all-talking, all
singing venture at the Capitol
theater beginning Thursday.
"The Rainbow Man," his initial
attempt in the movies, is the kind
of audible-Screen material that the
public likes. It has romance,
pathos, comedy, action; and spark
ling, catchy melodies which are in
telligently played and sung as part
of the plot.

A1 Jolson has sung to many dis
tinguished and attentive audiences
but he has never had a more wor
shipful one than when he sang his
new songs to Davey Lee during the
filming of "Say It With Songs."

it was not A1 Jolson. the star, who
was singing to him and the micro

Tom O Brien. playing a bluster
ing, bullying aviator who gets lick
ed plenty for his trouble, demon
strates that he is master of this
type of role. Russell Gleason has a
.fine character part.
