Charge Club Owner

DETROIT, Sept 30-m—Mar
tin Cohn, proprietor of the Study
Club .Detroit, cabaret in which 22
persons last their lives in a fire ten
days ago, was charged with man
slaughter in a warrant signed today
by Judge Christopher E. Stein in
recorder’s court.
PREPARATIONS MADE
FOR RECALL OF JURY
Preparations are being made in
the district clerk’s office for the re
call of the criminal district grand
jury Oct. SO.
Several cases, Including one con
cerning S. M. Jester, former peace
officer, is expected to be placed be
fore the grand Jury.

SCHOOL TO STAGE
TOM THUMB WEDDING
A Tom Thumb wedding is being
planned by the faculty of the
Washington Park school, and will
be staged at an early date, accord
ing to Mrs. A. S. Putegnat, prin
cipal. Funds from the entertain
ment are to go into the emergency
fund for the school.
VISIT OF AVIATION
HEAD HERE DELAYED
W. L. Morrison, traffic manager
of the Mexican aviation company
will be unable to visit Brownsville
this week, according to officials here.
Morrison was to discuss plans for an
all-expense air tour over the Mex
ican lines with O. C. Richardson,
chamber of commerce secretary’. He
has gone to San Salvador on busi
ness.

NEW YORK, Sept. 30.—(JP)—
Buying orders predominated at
the opening of today's stock mar
ket, and prices moved irregularly
higher. United Carbon opened 2%
points higher at 102%, a new high
record and Sears Roebuck showed
an initial gain of 2 points. Open
ing advances of a point or more
were registered by American Tele
phone. Westtnghouse Electric. Gen
eral Motors, American and Foreign
Power and Columbia Graphophone.
U. S. Steel Common Dropped a
point and Public Service of New
Jersey 1%.
The early buying movement car
ried the market up to 18.75 for
December and 19.01 far March or
about 10 to 17 points above Sat
urday’s close. Demand tapered off,
and the market was quiet with
prices showing moderate reactions
under further soythern hedging
and realizing. At mid-day Decem
ber was ruling around 18.89 with
prices generally holding some 8 to
10 points net higher.
There were a few soft spots. A.
M. Byers dropped 3% Points Coi
umbia cargon i% and white, Mar
mon and Auburn motors a point
each. . .
Foreign exchanges opened ir
regular, with cables a shade lower
at $4 85 15-32. . _
Oils assumed a position of major
prominence. Pierce Oil preferred ran
up 10% to a new high 51% In the
first hour. Houston Oil mentioned in
connection with a pending merger
of south-western natural gas proper
ties. moved up 4 points. Union oil of
California advanced 1.
Timken roller bearing and East
man Kodak quickly moved up -
points and Simmons. International
Harvester, commercial investment
trust, Electric Auto Lite and U. 8.
Industrial Alcohol advanced a point
or so.
