*** telephone exchange building
will be constructed and the latest
type telephone common battery
«ystem will be Installed at Point
Isabel In the immediate future, ac
cording to the announcement of J.
C. Paxton, general manager of the
Rio Grande Valley Telephone com
pany.
The company has purchased a lot
at P*. Isabel, the city commission
has granted approval of the stan
dard schedule of common battery
telephonerates. and plans will pro
wed at once for the erection of
the building. Approximately six
months time will be required to se
cure and Install the necessary equip
ment.
This will be the sixth new ex
change building to be erected in the
Valley by the company during the
gist two years, and places the sys
m of exchanges in a position a
mong the best in the state. The
company has njw plants at Mc
Allen. where their general head
quarters are located, Edinburg,
Mercedes, Los Fresnos. are complet
ing their plant at Donna and plan
to have U ready for opening short
ly after the first of the year.

Carnival Success
Due to the splendid co-operation
of patrons, the athletic association
of El Jardin high school realized
a neat sum from its carnival held
at El Jardin school building for the
purpose of raising funds for ath
letics.
The main attraction of the eve
ning was the coronation of the
queen. Maurine Barnes, who was
elected to the honor by students.

MISSION. Nov. 8.—Louis Alsmey
er, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Als
meyer, and county agent in Flori
da, has recently been awarded a
gold medal and a trip to Chicago
by the Soil Improvement commit
tee of the National Fertilizer asso
ciation in recognition of his out
standing work.
This award is made annually by
the committee to each of the three
county agents of the south whose
work is most noteworthy. Mr. Als
meyer is the first Floridan to re
ceive the honor.

started on an attractive building
in Brownsville, which will house the
Clay and McDavt' *, store, no\. lo
cated on Elizabeth street.
The new building is located on
Washington street between Tenth
and Eleventh and will represent
an investment of close to $10,000.

The structure will be 50x110
feet, one story, and built of brick
tile and stucco, with a reinforced
concrete foundation.
Ben V. Proctor drew plans for
It and Proctor and Dudley have the
contract for construction. Mater
ial has been moved to the site and
work on the foundation is being
done now.
Clay and McDavitt expect to
move to the new location January
first.
This store is one of the old bus
iness houses of the city, having
been establish in 1912. It has
been located in the present site,
between Eleventh and Twelfth
on Elizabeth street, for a number
of years.
The store carries complete lines
of leather goods, Including sad
dles and harness, hardware, farm
implements and sporting goods.
Attractive display windows will
be furnished in the new location,
and larger space will be available
for the stock of the firm.
Clay and McDavitt will occupy
the entire building.

duct an institute beginning Sun
day and continuing throught the
