The Eaglets kept their record clean and maintained their stand ard of at least four touchdown'-, in irv one game. The Eaglets scored early in the first quarter as the result of a blocked punt. Villarreal plunged It over. Pass for pcint was incom plete. New Team Wilson intercepted a pass on his own 45-yard line as the quarter ended. The Eaglets were stopping the visitors’ running attack cold. Brownsville's second score came ^near the end of the half. A pass was completed to Guzman lor 20 yards. Champion circled right end for 15 yards and Lee plunged over. At tempted kick for goal was partially blocked. Coach Soc Plato put in a complete new Eaglet aggregation at this juncture and the two teams battled the remainder of the half without scoring. San Benito made a serious threat eaily In the second half. Blondy Andrews, the outstanding San Be-! nitan. intercepted a pass on Brownsville's 20-yard lme. The Ninth Infantry boys decided they* could not come down to play the Edinburg Junior college Broncs. | Maybe it's against army regulations for doughboys to monkey around the harses. (Joke). At any rate[ the game was called off. The Broncs have signed up some real competi tion—the Schreiner institute Moun taineers. The teams will clash at Edinburg Nov. 18. This should be one of the outstanding games of the year for this section. The Moun taineers have always been noted for their strong football teams and this! year is proving no exception to the rule. The chief feather in their | caps is a victory* over the Rice Slimes. Tuesday of next week, the Broncs will take on the Texas Chiropractic College of San Antonio. This ought to be good. Think what a chiro practor could do to opponents down under a heap where the officials could not see him. Throw a few backbones out of joint and win any old game. The Chiropractors are managed by Jim Kendrick, well known pro fessional, who plays in the back field himself. The Chiropractors are a group of good players banded to gether almost for the sole purpose of playing football. Few, if any. of the players attend the college. ‘ Bessie/’ a first class pointer. Is now In the happy hunting ground.' and John Gregg. W. A. Ross and several other sportsmen are mourn ng her loss. Bessie was one of the jest bird dogs in the Valley. Re rntly in the field with eight other dogs. Bessie made four out of seven points. She was an intelligent ani mal and the hunters feel the loss keenly. There are many other : pointers, but to them there can I never be another Bessie. She died from yellow Jaundice, due to an obstruction in the gall duct a post mortem revealed. Tnother old timer has gone by the boards. Tuffv, familiar land mark on Elizabeth street, is no more. He belonged to the Rendall family. He wa* the friend of every cook in town. Dempsey Interesting Turf Character CHICAGO. Nov. 8—{/Pi—The death of Jack L. Dempsey, veteran racing authority writer, has taken from the turf sport one of its most in teresting characters. Dempsey died yesterday at Dal las, Tex , where he had gone to report the racing revival meeting i in the Lone Star State. In death , he has Joined Sam Hildreth and James Rowe. Sr., famous Ameri can trainers; Mars Cassiday and Lester Dean, noted starters, and John E. Washington Hopes to Take Game to Vindicate Departing Coach SAN FRANCISCO. Nov. 8.—<fP)— One gridiron event of major import ance wiil hold interest of Pacific coast football conference fans to morrow. The Cardinals of Stanford Uni versity and the Washington Hus kies tangle at Seattle in the fea ture contest. The Cardinals have dropped one game tills year, to Southern California, and Washing ton has lost several, but the game promises to be hard fought. The Huskies are seeking to vindicate their deposed coach, Enoch Bag shaw. by taking a victory over either Stanford or California, whom they meet next week. The leader of the conference, the University of California, will tangle with the Montana Grizzlers at Berkeley. In all probability this game will be an easy victory for the Californians, and Coach Nibs Price is planning to use second string men throughout the major part of the contest. The other conference clash wiil be between Washington state, lead er of Pacific Northwest elevens, and the University of Idaho Van dals. The game will be played at Pullman, home of Washington, and from all indications should be a win for the home team. Southern California, upset by California last week, takes on a non-conference opponent next week, meeting the University of Nevada at Los Angeles. Not so much that It looks like a hard fight, but that It may be the last time Valley fans will have an opportunity of seeing the Eagles in! action this year. They have no * more home games scheduled. Har landale should not prove very stre nuous opposition for the Screaming Eagles. The other game on'the menu for Friday is Donna at Weslaco. This should be an Interesting scrap, but It looks as though the odds favor i Weslaco. This bunch of fighting gridsters have taken on the best the Valley has to offer and still holds a .600 mark. Donna has been making a strike with the fans lately due to her spirit and the play of Quarterback Patterson. Mission slipped from the "lily white” 1.000 group Thursday when she was defeated by McAllen 13-6. J This leave* three teams with a shot1 !"--— at the Valley title—Harlingen, Mc Allen and La Feria. McAllen now reigns Hidalgo county with an iron hand. Armistice day, the Valley title will probably be decided when the Bulldogs Journey to Harlingen. La Feria evidently has a strong eleven. A real measure of her strength will be obtained Armistice when she takes on the San Benito Greyhounds at San Benito. The ninth infantry game with Edinburg Junior college, scheduled for Thursday, was called off by the soldiers. The Broncs have added another hard contest to their diet, however. The Schreiner Mountain eers will visit the Hidalgo county seat Nov. 18. The Mountaineers are one of the best prep school elevens in the Southwest. They hold a victory over the Rice slimes.
