School Groups to Sing Carols Christmas Eve A candle placed In the window will invite a visit from a merry group of high school boys and girls who are to make rounds of the city Christ mas Eve night, Dec. 24, singing Christmas carols. Participating in the singing will be Girl Reserves, the high school glee club, and the Hi-Y Glee club, and Junior College Y. W. C. A. members. Plans for the eve ning were completed at a meeting of the Girl Reserves at College Inn. Visits to the invalids and shut ins are especially planned, and the singers will be glad to visit any house displaying a candle In the window. Mrs. Fessenden. Girl Re serves sponsor, is directing the af fair. The group will start at 8 p. m, visiting first the Southern Pa cific station. The Tuesday program of the Girl Reserves was led by Gall McDa vltt, program chairman, and sto ries of Christmas customs In other lands were told by the members. Plans were also discussed for the Christmas party Friday after noon at the high school for Mex ican children, and the Olrl Re serves are especially anxious for , donations of toys and other gifts for the children. lit Mrs. Taylor Guest Of Mission Club Mrs. Volney Taylor, president 'of the Fifth District Texas Federation of Women's clubs, went to Mission Monday as an honor guest of the Civic league of that place at Its re gular meeting and luncheon. She discussed policies of the pres ent administration of the Fifth dis trict. and by special request of the league members, gave highlights on laws of Texas designed especially for the protection of its women and children. Mrs. Taylor stressed heal th work as one of the paramount policies of the administration, ar.d made a plea for more interest in birth ! tration. ALEXANDER GEORGE CHRISTMAS CONFECTION RECIPES Dinner Menu Baked Beans and Brown Bread Buttered Spinach Bead Lettuce and Relish Dressing Fruit Gelatin Dessert Coffee Fondant (Basis for fancy oandies) 3 cups sugar, 1 cup boiling water. f-8 teaspoon cream of tartar, 1 teaspoon vanilla. 1 teaspoon lemon extract, Green coloring. Pink color ing. Thoroughly mix the sugar, water and cream of tartar. Cook gently and evenly and without stirring I until a soft ball will keep Its shape when slowly poured Into a cup of cold water. Carefully pour into two shallow bowls which have been rinsed out of cold water. Let stand On a flat surface and without mix ing or stirring until it becomes a little thick. Pour the vanilla into one of the dishes and color with green and pour the lemon into the other, col orlrt It pink. Use a wooden spoon or spatula and mix until thick and cream}'. Take up in the palms of the hands and knead until very creamy. Place in a bowl and cover with waxed paper and put In cold place 24 hours. When ready to shape, knead until soft and break off small pieces and knead Into desired shapes. The fondant should stand for several hours tnd can then be rolled In chopped nuts, dates or raisings. If fondant is to be used for dipp ing. place the fondant after it has stood 24 hours in the upper part of a double boiler, heat slowly un til melted and then add centers and let dry on waxed paper. llvlnlty Candy •Getter eaten within several days) 31-2 cups sugar, 1-2 cup white corn syrup. 1-2 cup water. 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten. 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1-2 cun h-’:en nuts. 1-2 cup candied cherries. Mix che sugar, syrup and water. Boil gently and without stirring until a thread forms when a por tion is slowly poured from a spoon. Pour into the egg whites and beat until creamy and cold. Add the rest of the ingredients and spread on a greased pan. When firm, cut Into squares. Taffy 2 cups sugar, 1-2 cup molasses. 2 tablespoons vinegar, 1-4 cup wa ter, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 tea spoon vanilla. Mix the sugar, molasses, vinegar, water and butter. Boil gently ana without stirring until a hard "click" ball forms when a portion Is poured in cold water. Add the vanilla and pour onto a greased pan. When the taffy Is thick and cool enough to handle take up in the hands and pull until light colored and stiff. Pull out until tin' string Is 1-2 inch In diameter. Lay flat on a greased pan. Cut with scissors. Jesus Martlnes and baldemero Martinez pleaded guilty and were fined $25 and ordered to jail for SO days. John W. Rattan, nagro, under took to defend himself and was fined $25.
