Local Building And Real
Estate News of the Week
Modem in type, is a restful bed
room in the French treatment,
developed in the French treatment.
It is simply, but handsomely fur
nished, without any effect of over
decoration .and is a theme that can
be easily copied both as to color and
grouping.. The color scheme is in
rose and green. The walls are in a
soft light tint of green, while the
taffeta window hangings and the
bed spreads are in rose. A taupe car
pet covers the floor, and the otto
man. which is part cf a chaise
lounge chair not shown In the
sketch. Is in soft green a little dark
er titan the walls.
The window treatment is especi
ally interesting for this type of room
Two sets of draperies and glass cur
tains arc used. The over drapes are
of the rose taffeta caught back high
on the window frame, and allowed
to drop to the floor. The under
drapes are in rose and green printed
linen, which also drops to the floor.
The glass curtains are of cream net.
The woodwork Is in ivory, and the
furniture is In ivory and mahogany,
which makes & very pleasing com
bination.
Bi-Symmetrical Grouping
Note the bi-symmeterical arrange
mentor grouping of the beds, which
are of ivory wood, and the way the
desk table is set out from the wall
In a position to get the light from
the window at the left. This table,
and the tiny table between the beds
are of mahogany. The chair is also
of mahogany. Opposite the beds,
Against the wall opposite the win
show in the sketch, is an ivory chest I
of drawers with a minor above, the '
wood matching that of the beds.
Against the wall opposite the win
dow on the left in a dressing table
draped In taffeta matching the bed
spreads.
Note the arrangement of the pic
tures in the bed and table groupings.
The bi-symmetrical arrangement Is
carried through by two pictures
framed alike, hung over the beds.
In the table grouping, a picture is
hung to one side instead of In the
center of the wall panel, and is bal
anced by the lamp set on the oppos
ite side of the desk, table.

An unusual piece of construction
work has just been completed by
Proctor and Dudley, local contrac
tors, in the new hangers built by
the Pan-American Airways at the
international airport.
Ben V. Proctor, and Ike Dudley,
members of the firm, are particular
ly proud of the achievement, not
only because it is a big piece of
work for any but the larger con
tracting firms, but because these
two hanger* are the first to b«
built in the United States with such
a large span.
Trusses span 130 feet, and weigh
seven tons each. To further the
magnitude of the task, 154 oarloads
of building materials were used in
the structures, Including 280 tons
of fabricated structural steel; 700
squares of special corrugated iron
roofing and siding, and 500 yards
of concrete for foundations and
floors.
The hangers are built to with
stand pressure of a 120 mile wind,
and are fireproof throughout.
Two hangers of the same type
are being built in Miami, at the
Pan-American field there.
Proctor and Dudley are proud of
their record with the hangars, as
well as with other building work in
Brownsville and the Valley.
Much building work Is now being
planned, and members of the firm
are looking forward to a big year.
Proctor stated Saturday that they
now have in their office plans for
more work than they have ever had
on hand at any one time since com
ing to the Valley.
Contract has Just been let for a
residence to be built in the new
Buena Vista development near the
coast for Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Rit
ter.
Mr. and Mrs. Ritter, who are now
residing in West Brownsville, come
here from Chicago. They plan to en
ter the nursery business, and will
specialize in tropical and semi-trop
ical friuts and plants.
A HOME SUITABLE FOR APARTMENT
HOUSE DWELLERS
No, 157S DESIGNED BY CHESTER II. DISQl'E
nv w1 . —
Statistics show that since the war
»ore apartment buildings and fewer
residences have been erected. Some
experts claim that beforo long an
exodus from the apartment build
ing to a specially designed resi
dence will soon happen. A resi
dence designed with this thought
In mind is hero shown, wherein
a rather large and distinctive liv
ing-room and a practical size bed
room, with bath conveniently near,
are the main features. The kitchen
and dining-alcove are small but
efficiently arranged, with ample
apace for all requirements.
This sort of an arrangement Is
Ideal for the young married couple
as it is their own property and at
no greater enponse than the cost of
living in an apartment. Should
additional room be required in later
years. cx;ra bedrooms on the see
* ond floor may be finished. The i
bedroom on the first floor may
then becomo the dining-room
•hould this be required.
The design of this little cottage |
Is outstanding in Its quaint indi-‘
viduallty and would certainly
pleas9 the most critical. It would
bo impossible to express in words
the quaint homlness of the entry
way with its coat closet neatly
hidden behind the front door, heav
ily beamed ceiling, leaded glass
window, arched opening to alcove,
and opening to stairs leading to
the second floor.
X*--•
The living-room and dining
alcove are floored with heavy oalc
boards of random width. The fire
place and living-room beamed ceil
ing, of course, are of unusual Nor
man design.
A 50-foot lot would give ample
space on either 6ide and its cost
is estimated to be between 53,500
and 57,000, exclusive of heating and
plumbing.
The Ideal Place for a Home of Your Own
Los Ebanos
(The Ebonies)

A residential addition that is
modem in every respect. Three
minutes from downtown Browns
ville. Close to schools and churches.
Sensibly restricted. A very desir
able neighborhood. Every lot a
sound value—as an investment or
as a homesite for yourself. _
