May Have Rival
Developing

McALLEN, April 30 —Mexico is
preparing to launch a huge camp
aign to attract American tourist
trade that to date has been going
to Canada and Europe, according to
word from the Mexican consul sta
tioned at Hidalgo. v
The tourist and convention com
mittee of the American Chamber of
Commerce in Mexico City has point
ed out Mexico's tourist attractions
as compared with those of Canada.
The statement, in part, follows:
‘Mexico is as convenient to the
American traveler as Canada Mex
ico affords greater attractions and
has a more satisfactory and uniform
climate. A few years ago Canada
was not experiencing a large tour
ist business, but • ealuzng the advant
ages to its development, steps were
taken to create a tourist business
which is very profitable to that
country. It is very conservatively es
timated that the American tourists
will leave in Canada this year ap
proximately S350.000.000
‘‘Aside from the tourist business
to Canada billions of dollars are
spent in Europe every year by the
American tourist There is no reason
why a great portion of it cannot be
brought to Mexico"
Colonel C. D Hick, chairman of >
the tourist committee of the Amer- '
ican Chamber of Commerce at Mon
terrey. has stated that an advertis
ing campaign will be conducted for
Mexico similar to that which has so
enormously increased Canada's tour
ist influx in recent years.
Recently the department of com
merce reported that Canada would
have as many American tourists this
year as formerly, notwithstanding
economic enditions in the United
States, and especially mention0:!
Mexico as a good place to visit.

LONDON. April 30— /P—Unless
all news of disturbances is being
stopped by British censors, two full
days have passed without a serious
breach of the peace in India
Closing to visitors of Khvber Pass,
outlet from India to Afghanistan,
was unexplained, but was regarded
as a precautionary’ act adopted for
the protection of Peshwar. 11 miles
