W. C. A. camp at Rio Hondo, and will continue througn out today. About 35 club women of the county and visitors were pres ent for the first day’s session, and a larger attendance is expected to day. A delicious picnic lunch was served at noon at the camp, brought Dasjsei sxyie oy me ciuo mcmoers. * Miss Dorothy Porter, Cameron J county demonstration agent, is di recting the two-day camp and the program which includes discussions and demonstrations of phases of club work. Mrs. Volney Taylor of Browns ville, president of the Fifth District federation, spoke yesterday on “Value of Federation to Home Dem onstration Clubs” Miss Mildred B®r;nn, spoke on the subject Look in* Forward in Home Demonstra tion Work.” Henry Alsmcver, coun ty agent, discussed poultry dem onstration. and wardrobe demon strators. led by Mrs. Dora Barnes, gave reports. Mrs Florence Avehhe. and Mrs. Margaret Mc Clughan attended the all-day semi annual session of the Valley As sembly of Odd Fellows and Rebe kalis held yesterday in Raymond ville. Over 100 members and guests of the lodges were present during the day. An outstanding feature of the morning session was the address given by Ray Rector of Stamford, grand master of the Odd Fellows of Texas. The delegates were welcomed by Judge Dorsett of Raymondville and response was given by O. J. Love joy of McAllen for the Odd Fellows, and by Mrs. Ada Dean of San Be nito for Rebekahs. Isadore Moritz was elected pres ident of the assembly during the afternoon business session, with other officers as follows: M. L. Em. mons. first vice-president; Mrs. Ada Curry of Raymondville. second vice president; J. O. Ward, Mercedes, reelected secretary; o. J. Gunn, re elected treasurer; Mrs. Allan, chaplain; W. J. Woods of San Bc nnlto. sergeant-at-arms. The afternoon address was de livered by Barry Miller, candidate for governor. A watermelon feast was enjoyed late in the afternoon, and the evening session was given over to degree contests among the teams. Comings, Goings Miss Bessie Goforth left Wednes day for a visit m California. Her sister, Miss JLee Goforth, returned this week from an extended visit in Chicago. II* Mr. and Mrs. J. Flores. Miss D. Bennett, received her diploma last night with the graduating class from the Methodist hospital in Houston. • • • Mrs. J. L. Abney expects to leave Thursday for her old home in Omaha. Convention To DrawNumerous Ex- Valleyites A number of former residents of the Valley, together with frequent visitors to the Valley, are planning to attend the state convention of Business and Professional Women's Clubs June 9. 10 and 11. according to Mrs. Blanche Fulgham, Harlin gen, president of the Valley federa tion. The Valley federation includes the clubs of Brownsville. San Be nito. Harlingen. Mercedes. Weslaco, Donna. McAllen. Edinburg and Raymond vllle. Mrs. W. D James o! Corpus Christi lived for many years in San Benito. She is employed in the city ticket office of the Missouri Pacific Railway in Corpus Christi. where she has lived for the past sis years. Mrs Margaret Barry Treflich, also of Corpus Christi. lived in Mc Allen for some time. Mrs. Treflich has been with the W. L. Pearson company for several years in var ious capacities, and part of the time she was in the McAllen office of the company. Prior to coming to McAllen. Mrs. Treflich was in the Houston office. After leaving McAllen. She was transferred tc Corpus Christi. when the Pearson of lice was installed there. She is a charter member of the Corpus Christi club Mrs. Treflich will ar rive in Harlingen Saturday even ing In the party with her will be Misses Leona Witherspoon. Jamie Mateer. Claire Richardson Bovett. and Lucille Lawrence Smith, also of Corpus Chrlsti. Mrs Alice Sampson of Waco will visit her son. Torn Sampson of Harlingen, during the convention days. Mrs. Sampson is president of the Waco club, and during her term of office the club membership has increased from forty-eight to seventy members. She is custodian of the Vault at the Citizens' Na tional Bank. Mrs Sampson is an active worker in the Waco Little Mrs W T Bolding of Temple is very well known m the Valley. Mrs. Bolding is the widow of a well known Texas physician, and has a wid? acquaintanceship throughout the Valley, having made a number of trips with the late Dr. Bolding. For the past two years she had been hostess in the Scott and White Clinic of Temple, and through her work has become ac quainted with many more Valley people. She is arriving Saturday with Doctor Bertha S. McDavitt, also of Temple, so that she will have a chance to renew friend ships. Miss Daisy H. Leake, also of Temple, has been a visitor to the Valley many times. She has ad dressed clubs of the Valley on sev eral occasions. Miss Leake is se cond vice president of the Nation al Federation and will be a featured speaker Monday evening. June 9, at the Fair Park Auditorium, Har lingen. when the convention will be opened. The Valley will have an opportunity to hear Miss Leake, as the program will be open for the public.
