Record Liquor Haul
Is Made at Laredo
LAREDO, Tex., June 4.—(#)—
Laredo customs officers today con
ducted their largest raid of the
year, seizing 2400 bottles of bonded
American whiskey, tequila and
champagne and arresting three
men.
The men were captured after a
thrilling chase and two automobiles
were confiscated. Officers believed
that the cargoes had been loaded
on this side of the Rio Grande
after the Intoxicants had been
brought across the river by swim
ming dogs.

when it w'ishes to travel the open ;
highway.
LUCKY
TIFFIN. OW. Levi Wvndham,
poultry yard owner, considers him
self lucky, even though he has
just lost a perfectly good motor
truck. In crossing a railroad track
here he was struck full force by a
passenger train. The train struck
the front of the truck, knocking
it into a ditch. Wvndham was un
injured and two crates of eggs in
the truck remained unbroken. j

into new high ground, the main
trend of stock prices ■was downward
in today s forenoon trading. The
rails and coppers were specially easy.
Losses generally held to a point or
two in the favorites such as Ameri
can Can, Westtnghouse Electric, Ra
dio, Anaconda Copper and U. S.
Industrial Alcohol. J. I. Case drop
ped several points. St. Paul Prefer
red. Wabash. Erie and Canadian
Pacific were heavy.
Coca Cola rose nearly 5 points to
190. a record for the year. Union
Pacific showed exceptional strength,
advancing more than 5, motion pic
ture shares were also supported.
Call money renewed at 3 per cent.

NEW YORK. June 5.—Cot
ton opened steady at a decline of 4
points to an advance of 1 point.
Active months sold about 4 to 6
points net lower during the first
few minutes under renewed liquid
ation and scattered offerings prom
oted by favorable weather reports
and easy cables. The decline to
14.18 for New October attracted
some trade buying and the market
was fairly steady at the end of the
first half hour with prices working
back to about yesterday's close.
Rallies from the opening decline
extended to 15.84 for July and 14 29
for new October and carried the
general list some 4 to 8 points above
yesterday's closing quotations. Of
ferings increased somewhat at these
figures, while covering tapered off
and the market worked off again
with prices at midday about 1 to 4
points net lower.

NEW ORLEANS. June 5——
Cotton opened rather irregular to
day. Cables were lower than due
and July opened 5 points down, but
later months started one point up.
Prices turned downward, however,
losing 5 to 6 points with July at
14.22. the decline being due to fa
vorable showers in the eastern belt.
Later in the first hour, the market
rallied on short coverings.
The cotton market ralied later
owing to the advance in the price
of silver. July advancing to 15.56.
October to 14.32. and December to
1438, or 8 to 10 points above the
early lows. Later, however, prices
eased again on realizing, based on
the good weather in the belt, mak
ing ne wlows with July at 15.47,
October 14.20 and December 14.27.

highs. At mid-session the market
was steady and 3 to 4 points above
the lows.
WHEAT STEADY
CHICAGO. June 5—Wheat
here showed unusual steadiness
early today, influenced by relative
strength of Liverpool quotations and
by dearth of moisture overnight in
spring wheat territory northwest.
Opening at 3-8c off to a shade
advance, Chicago sagged a little
further, and then averaged some
what higher than yesterday's fin
ish Corn, oats and provisions were
also firm, with corn starting un
changed to 1-4 3-8 up, but sub
sequently easing back.

weak; fowls 20-21; broilers 20-23;
springs 30; roosters 13 1-2 to 14;

Ghandi Mourned
