Linsey entertained Thursday afternoon at her home in the Del Francis apartments with two tables of bridge. A pretty color j scheme of pink and yellow ap- | peared in the zinnias and golden glow which decorated the rooms, and in the accessories of the game. At the close of the games five awards were given, and a salad course was served during the after noon. Miss Erin McDaniel, of Waco. ] who has been visiting Mrs. Linsey for some time, was a guest at the affair. * • • Surprise Party For Bride and Groom A surprise party for Mr. and Mrs. Elll Gesell, recently married couple, was arranged Wednesday evening by Miss Stella Shank. The j guests gathered at Miss Shank’s home in Brownsville, going from there to the community hou.e in j El Jardin. Dancing was the diver sion for the evening. Sandwiches and lemonade were served. Guests included Misses Dollie Burchfield, Ruth Helbig, Helen McClure. Mattie Collier. Rosie Enns. Ruby Goode. Collins entertained the primary B Y. P. U. and the second and third year of the cradle roll children at her home in West Brownsviile Wednesday afternoon. Several of her friends enjoyed this occasion with her and she was remembered with gifts. Miss Helen Stone assisted Mrs. Conway, as did Miss Grace Kepford in the entertainment of the small guests. • • • CLUB RESUMES MEETINGS The Tuesday afternoon bridge club has been re-organized again t with the beginning of August apd i the return of manv of the member* * from different sections of the coun try. and met at the home of Mrs. T. R. Burnett this week. Two tables of players were present with Mrs. Herbert Melch as high scorer and Mrs. H. F. Halstead high for guests. The personnel was composed of the following matrons: Mesdames W. O. Brown. E. P. Congdon, Her bert Melch, A1 Volz, C. P. Wright. W. R. Parrish, H. F. Halstead and her sister, Mrs. Tuggles of Alabama and Mrs. Kohler of this city. • • • AFTERNOON BRIDGE HONORS ONE Complimentary to Miss Juanita Speer, Miss Jo Thies entertained with an afternoon of bridge last Monday afternoon at her home on Dougherty avenue, having two tables of guests. Miss Marjorie Parkhill was high score holder, Miss Speer receiving the consolation and tne guest prize. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Whittlesey and daughter are in Gilmer visiting re latives. Mrs. Hamilton was here from Ft. Ringgold Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Kinduloe and Mrs. Stella Yarbro and baby came from Vernon the lirst of the week for a visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Parrish here. Mrs. Ivan Treat left Saturday for her home in Youngstown, Ohio, after a visit with her mother here, Mrs. Olaf Anderson. M Boyce, has returned to here home here. Her father died while she was there. Stockton Fountain of McAllen was in Mission Monday. Abe Waldron of Harlingen was a visitor in this city Monday. Miss Jewell Litche, friend of Miss Janet Caldwell and her house guest for the past few weeks, also accompanied the Cannons -s far as San Antonio, where she wtll visit her aunt for a week before going on to her home in Dallas. Arthur J. Moore and wile left Saturday for San Antonio and Fort Worth, Arthur going to the Officers’ Training camp in Camp Bull is while his wife will spend the two weeks visiting her sister in Fort Worth. Misses Ethel and Ruth Leathers left the last of last week for San Antonio, where Miss Ethel has a position with a prominent firm as stenographer. Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Brownsville Man Is Held on Booze Count A local man was being invest igated by customs officials today following seizure of 300 pints of beer in the downtown section Wed nesday evening. The man. a small car, 300 pints of Mexican beer, six quart# of whiskey and two quarts of gin were taken in the seizure. It was likely that charges would be filed before U. S. Commissioner E. K. Goodrich Thursday afternoon in the case. The arrest was made by Mounted Customs Inspectors Lee Campbell and Alfonso Champion.
