Visitors Day Observed By Club (Special to The Herald» RIO HONDO. Aug. 20—Amid the pleasant setting of green lawn, palms and flowers, the Brown Tract Home Demonstration club entertained Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Horace John son on the Brown Tract, the oc casion being the annual visitors day. Friends were invited to join the club in the social meet!, g and to view the display of the many clever and beautiful articles of handiwork of the members. Mrs. J. F. McCarty, was chair man in charge of the two large tables displaying handmade raf fia hat*, baskets and belts, patch work quilts, rag rugs and fancy work which reveal the skill and artisTy of the members of the club. A musical program was arrang ed. Miss Be ha Brockhaus render ed a violin sola "Whispering Hope* was sung by Misses Gladys Vickers and Alice Wilcox and an other song was given by Mrs. O. K Worley of San Benito At the conclusion of the pro gram a number of games under the direction of Mrs. W. Brock haus and Mrs Horace Johnson was enjoyed. Mrs. R Lang gave an annual re port on the canning and preserv - ing activities of the club. At the conclusion, punch and cake were served to fifty-four guests and club members. • • • STUDY CLUB OP Y W. C. A. MEETS The Y W C. A. study club met at Ciunpo del Arroyo Friday, this being the first club session to be held there s %ce the close of the summer encampments. Serving as hostess for the day was Mrs E. M A Starr. All papers for the afternoon’s study topic were on museums of Trxas Mrs. Mabel Hale gave the Witte Memorial museum at San Antonio. A donation to this mu ! seum in Bracken ridge park in San Antonio was made by A. Witte of fSS.ooo. S10.000 to be I used few a collection of pictures I and the balance to be used for the handsome bulldmg which now stands as a memorial to this pro minent San Antonio doctor. Mrs H C. Chambers told of the museum on the campus of the University of Texas. Mrs. Miriam Lutcher Stark of Orange donated a collection valued at half a mil lion dollars besides $150,000 in cash few the building to house this col lection. considered the most dis tinctive and valuable in the south Trxas artists are given particular recognition here Mrs. Fred Carpenter s paper dealt with the Dallas museum which Is located In the Highland Park town hall, a Dallas suburb. This museum Is noted for its valu able collection of oriental rugs valued at S750.000 and donated by James Ballard, prominent art col lector and manufacturer of St. Louis. Mrs. David Ethertagton told club members of the museum lo cated at Fort Worth, noted few its valuable and unique collection of articles from the Philippine Is lands and donated by Major Joseph C.
