Music Program To Be Given By Ensemble (Special to The Herald) McALLEN. Jail. 19. — The En semble club will present a musical program at the First Christian church Tuesday night at 8:15 p. m. Dr. Olln E. Young. Social Notes From Pharr (Special to The Herald) PHARR. Jan 29.—The Methodist Missionary Society met the early part of the week at the home of Mr- Verna Hansen, with Mrs. N. L. Davidson and Mrs. Ada Flowers as assistant hostesses. The spacious reception rooms were made very attractive with pink and yellow Columbia roses intermingled with fern in black and green vases. Low bowls ol varied colored sweet peas were also placed around the rooms. An interesting program from the Book of Psalms was given with Mr'. Claude Adamson as leader. Mrs. C. L Vemon and Mrs. A. A. Slayton took part and each gave interesting talks. A short business session was held presided over by Mrs J. G. S — OES School of Instruction Has Large Gathering For All-Day Monday Meeting The school of instruction held by district number five of section num ber eight of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star Mon day and Monday night had about 300 members of the Order present with ten states represented. There were nine gland officers present, with Mrs Mattie Mitchell, worthy grand matron, being assist ed in the school by the district de puty grand matron, Mrs. Anna Canze. Both ladies are residents of San Antonio. At the session during the day, the San Benito chapter number 565 had charge of the proceeding*. At the night session Hope Chapter 124 of Brownsville exemplified the work. During the morning session the members were entertained very de lightfully by Mrs. Grover Singer who sang two vocal solos. In the after noon Mrs. Fritz Schmidt sang two numbers. “I Pass by Your Window*’ and "Homing.” These were partic ularly well received by the apprecia tive audience. Luncheon was served by the ladies of the First Methodist church at the church at noon. Jan 29—All plans have been completed for the local President's Ball to be held Tuesday night at the Reese-WU-Mond hotel, according to Lloyd Thompson, gen eral chairman. The time of the ball was changed fiom Wednesday night to Tuesday} night in order to obtain the ser vices of Richard Shannon and his 12-piece Rice Hotel orchestra from Houston. The band will present a group of its own entertainers as well zs play ing the dance numbers. A number of local organizations have co-operated in staging the ball, the proceeds of which will be ; divided 30-70 between the Warm Springs Foundation for crippled children and local chanties.
