REYNOSA ROAD AID PROMISED iSoecUl to Thf Heratdl MCALLEN, Feb. 38.—Completion •f the Monterrey-Reynosa highway through northeastern Mexico, from Monterrey to the Nuevo Leon* Tamaullpas state line, by the end of 1935 was promised a group of Lower Rio Orande Valley good roads enthusiasts at a meeting In Monterrey Saturday, according to Paul Vickers, manager of the Mc Allen Chamber of Commerce Vickers returned Sunday with a group of goodwill visitors to McAllen from Monterrey and members of the International Road Committee, composed of Reynosa. Mexico, and McAllen business men. The com mittee. headed by R. H. Sawyer of McAllen and Alfonso Dominguez of Reynosa. conferred with Salvador Toscano. Nuevo Leon state highway engineer, and Santiago Cerna, Nuevo Leon state highway commis sioner. concerning the project. Also present were Sr. Rodrigues, general manager of the Monterrey Cham ber of Commerce; Canales Garza Cantu, second vice president, and Bernardo Closua. presidente; and Juan Farias, assistant manager of the same organization. Toscano advised that the pres ent work of surfacing the high way would be continued by the Nuevo Leon state highway depart ment and would Include, within the next few months, construction of a new bridge across the Santa Catarina river A ferry will con tinue to serve motorists at the Ban Juan river, however, until new appropriations can be obtained In 1938 Culverts and other structures on the new highway have already been completed City of Reynosa and individuals and others in Hidalgo county, Tex as. will seek to provide a monthly fund of 2.000 pesos with which to match a like s^m appropriated by the Mexican federal government to Improve the remaining 21 miles of the highway from Reynosa to the Nuevo Leon-Tama ulipas state lines All grading on this stretch of road la completed and all drainage struc tures are In.
