Easter Theme Is Noted In Appointments (8peclal to Th« Herald > EDINBURG. March 28. — A color ful arrangement of spring flowers Including tall floor baskets of cal endulas and larkspur and low bowls k>f petunias and phlox were used tn the Community House Tuesday af ternoon when Mrs. C. A. Davis and Mrs. Victor Bobo entertained more than fifty guests at a charming bridge tea. Greeting the guests at the door were the hostesses and Mrs. H. L Warren and Mrs. H. U. Miles and Mrs. Douglas Mackenzie, the latter holding an Easter basket filled with the tallies. Pastel shades of pink, yellow, orchid, green and blue were used in the table covers and the bridge appointments followed an Easter theme. High trophy for the games was awarded to Mr* E. 8. Hearn# with Mrs. L. E. Tinkler scoring second high Mrs Cullen Looney made low score while high cut was made by Mrs H G. Ferguson. An exquisite tea cloth of em broidery and filet lace was used on the long tea table which was center ed with a bouquet of spring flow ers In a brass bowl and Hanked by tall tapers in brass candelabra, all on mirror aeflertors Mrs. Mac kenzie served as dining room host ess with Mrs. Miles presiding at the tea service and Mrs Warren serv ing the frozen dessert which was a rlng«eha])ed tinted confection sur rounded by greenery and centered with Easter randies. Sandwiches were cut in the shape of yellow chickens and white bunnies and pastel colored icing was used on the Individual cakes, all accentuating the Easter motif. • • • More than fifty guest* from this city railed Saturday afternoon from three until five o’clock at the de lightful Vr» given in Alamo by Mrs A. B. Jensen, the former Miss Mil dred Combs of this pity. Greeting the guests at the door were the hostess and her mother. Mrs. R D Combs. Lovely calendulas and marigold* were attractively arranged about the rooms. A gold basket filled with calendulas graced the center of the lace laid refreshment table and on either side were tall white tapers in gold candleholders Miss Mildred Bell of Pharr presided at the table and served delicious punch with wa fers and mint*. • • • One of the most delightful bridge courtesies of the season was given by Mrs E. Miss Combs was the recipient of many lovely eifts presented to her on a tea-wagon from which hung wedding bells fashioned of white crepe naper. Brewster. • Am The Delphian Study chib of this city in continuing the study of Egypt heard interesting talks con cerning the excawtlons in that country when they met Monday af ternoon at the Community House. Mrs. R Borroum opened the study for the afternoon with a review of the country of Mesopotamia, giving description: of location, people, schools, and climate. Following this Mrs. W H Mavhew gave a general discussion of “What Oeol ologv Reveals.'' emphasizing the Paleolitheic Ages. •Neolithic Man, Bronze Age. Primitive Civilization and Cave Paintings. This article preceded the talk given by Mrs. J. i O. Duncan concerning “Modem Ex cavations in Mesopotamia,*' in which statistics were given on ex cavation parties sent out by the University of Pennsylvania. At each meeting a member is ask ed to talk on a subject of her own choice and Mrs J. A. Shosenberg of Akron Ohio, speaker for the af ternoon. told in an entertaining manner, of witnessing the building of the dirigible Akron, the hangar in which it was kept, the dedication ceremony and the first flight. After dinner, a game of bridge was started and Mr. Henderson was called out of the house on business Upon his return, he found the house filled with guests, come to congratulate him on his annivers ary. Visitors Are Complimented At Breakfast <8p#ctel to Th« Herald) SAN BENITO March 28 — Mr. and Mr* Angus Munro who were week-end visitors in the city as the guests of Mrs. A. J. Munro, were complimented Sunday morn ing with a breakfast of smart ap pointments in the home of Dr. and Mrs. T. W. Lewis. The Rretty breakfast table was centered with a low bowl of blue bonnets while the same lovely blos soms were placed at vantage points about the rooms where the guests later assembled. Those present were Mr and Mrs Munro. Mrs. A. J. Munro. and Car roll Thomas. Mr. and Mrs Munro have returned to San Antonio where they are located at present. New Officers Of Auxiliary Are Installed The Woman * Auxiliary of the First Presbyterian church held the annual meeting for the church year at 3:JO p m. Monday in the church. The theme for the year s work was “Crusading With Chriat." As each retiring officer ga>« her report and brought out what the auxiliary had done during the past year towards the support of the work she repre sented. she attached a ribbon from a miniature church to the places on the world map her cause had helped. When the reports were completed, the church was tied with many other parts of the world as well as the homeland. The closing meaaage by the retir ing preaident, Mrs. L. The object of the club is to become better acquainted with aviation and the different types of planes in use. Aldrich on Lincoln Ave nue where bowls of garden flower* reflected the springtime. Mrs. W. W Ey presided at the business session which preceded the study hour, and the constitution was adopted at this time. Miss Elisabeth Ruff gave an ab sorbing paper, discussing at length modem art and touching on both the Bohemian school and works of the foremost American painter* of today. The speaker used a number of illustration* and told of the tradi tion of some of the artists work.
