160-rubber bridge battle between
the Ely Culbertso-/. and the P. Hal
Simses comes to its close Friday
night with the twin mantle of vic
tory already draped on the shoul
ders of Ely and Josephine Culbert
son
They hold such a lead over Hal
and Dorothy Sims that nothing
short of vulnerable grand slams in
•ach of the six remaining rubbers
of the match would bring the
Smses out on top. Sims enter
ins no hope that such a bridge
miracle will come to pass.
At the end of the 14th rubber]
Thursday night, the Culbertson
lead amounted, to 13.970 points
which means that the Simses would
have to average a plus of 1.400
points on each of the remaining
rubbers to win.
• How do you feel. Hal?" asked j
Culbertson at the close of Thursday
night's play.
“I wont deny It. Ely.” replied
8ims. “I feel terrible.”
* v Tib so glad to hear it," said
Culbertson merrily.
Although Culbertson professed to
have some fear he might be de
feated. he was obviously elated that
victory was definitely within his
grasp.
Eleven rubbers were played
Thursday and six of them went to
the Culbertsons. Nevertheless, the
Simses made a net gain for the day
of 750 points.
Although Sims, Is on the losing
end of the match, he got some sat
isfaction from a successful after
noon session when he and Culbert
son had B. Jay Becker of Phila
delphia and Albert H. Morehead,
respectively, for partners
The two principals decided to
play for a stake of 25 cents a point,
just to liven things up.
Sims had a plus of 2.610 points
for the afternoon session and Cul
bertson had to hand over $652.50.
It was one of the few bright spots
of the match for Sims.
The Culbertsons have a total of
121.600 points to 107.630 for their op
ponents.

presents a chorus of more than two
hundred breath - taking beauties,
personally selected bv George White.
In the chorus of the scandal addi
tion, which is booked for showing
Friday and Saturday, at the Arcadia
Theatre, ar.d for Saturday Midnite
Freview and Sunday. Monday at the
Rivoli Theatre in San Benito, are
two Texas girls. Kasha Haroidi and
Marbeth Wright both of Dallas.
The entire show was originated
and supervised by George White.
In the selection of the stars, prin
cipal players, creation of the dances,
and even to the origination of it's
story. The plot of the new issue of
the scandals could stand on it’s
own even without the opulence of
son<r, dance and comedy. It concerns
a vacation bound producer who
stops off to a small Georgia town
to send a telegram, and sees his
own name on the marquee of a
theatre. Scar lalized. he objects and
proceeds to discover some unusual
ong and dance talent buried in
this small town. He brings the local
talent to Broadway, whose bright
lights lures a pair of lovers from
their vows, until the producer re
vives the romance, and packs them
back home.
