Customers Aid In Planning Of ’35 Electrolux How the new beauty of design that characterises the gas refrigerators to be marketed In Brownsville and vicinity was achieved by the artists and engineers of the Servel com pany in cooperation with the wo men customers themselves was told today by Mr. A. J. Authenreith of the Modern Home and Equipment Co.. In announcing that the new lOSS Electrolux models would be on display at the gas company’s sales rooms In the Cromack building. In telling of the aim of the Servel management to meet the latest de mands in feminine taste with regard to the appearance of an automatic refrigerator. Mr. Authenreith re ^■ ferred to a report from P. E. Sell man, vice-president of Servel, Inc., which described the new 1935 Elec trolux models. The plan to consult the women customers with regard to the design of the 1935 Electrolux was the Idea of Mr. Louis Ruthen burg, president of Servel, Inc., ac cording to Mr. Authenrelth. “With a record of accomplish ment in technical completeness ac companied by a gratifying accep tance of gas refrigeration through out the nation the manufacturers of Electrolux gas refrigerators turned their attention this year particular ly to the designing of a refrigeration cabinet that would conform to the ever-increasing demand on the pan of the American housewife for kitch en appliances that will not only ease the burden of housekeeping, but which will also lend an air of charm and loveliness to the kitchen.” Mr Authenrelth said. Brownsville, Texas ton embody all the latest devices required in an up-to-date automa tic refrigerator encased in a cabi net constructed cm lines that should appeal to the best artistic sense. Of course, the gas refrige raters to be sold by our company in 1935 com bine all the features that have com mended them to purchasers in the past, namely their silence, their comparative freedom from repair, and their economy of operation be cause of the absence of moving parts. “The long life of the Electrolux gas refrigerator was a large factor in formulating the plans for the design of the 1935 cabinet. An ap pliance triat is to remain part of the kitchen furniture has all the more reason for being one that adds to the room's attractiveness. “One of the foremost artists in New York City was commissioned to design a 1935 Electrolux refrigerator model which would not merely rep resent the artist’s own conception of beauty, but one that would be actually in accordance with the taste of the women customers. Before be ginning his work, the artist consult ed many representative housewives, and his designs were made with their views and ideas in mind. Naturally the views of Servel engineers and research experts had to be consult ed. “Before the 1935 cabinet was de cided upon by the Servel manage ment, suggestion of many women who had viewed the original sub mitted by the New York artist were embodied by him in the final de signs. “Thus, our company is able tc present a product developed, first, in the laboratory, second. In the ar tist’s studio, and third, in that im portant domain, the field of fem ine opinion where public tastes in kitchen appliances should be form ulated. “New serviceable features of the 1935 Electrolux include increased capacity more insulation and an egg rack, in addition to the older devices—the trigger trays, ice-cube releasing apparatus, vegetable fresh ener, electric lights, split shelf, and bottle rack.” The marbled god wit migrates oast and west lntsead of north and south. Gives Valley Home Industry Many persons are not aware that there is a completely equipped plant in the Valley for the manufacture, sale and installation of neon gas signs but such is the case. The plant is that of the Tex-State Neon Co., located at 808 W. Harri son Street in Harlingen with William D. Rickman, experienced neon man, as the owner and general manager. Mr. Hickman points out emphati cally that his organization is not an agency for an outside firm but actually makes the signs which it sells. It buys the raw materials and manufactures the signs according to the specification of the buyer. A large stock of glass tubing, gas, transformers and other materials is always kept on hand so that even large signs can be manufactured in a minimum time. The Valley plant has one of the best small vacuum systems in south Texas. This machine is capable of delivering almost a perfect vacuum. The greater the vacuum in the glass tubes the greater the effectiveness of the sign. The Valley plant is able to put out tubing with the vaccum above the standards set up by the in dustry. One of the reasons the Tex-State Neon Co., can make a better job than the large shops is because all work is done either by Mr. Hick man or under his personal super vision. It is not a piece work proposi tion where time is an element and workmen try to do as much as pos sible in a given period All sorts of color effects can be provided and Mr. Hickman invites inquiries as to individual problems. Anyone having an idea for a sign and wishing to know whether It can be worked out with neon is invited to consult him. He stands ready at all times to give technical advice in the designing of signs and in work ing them out. Neon lends itself to easy manipulation and many beauti ful effects can be obtained with it. Mr. Hickman said. He has been connected with the industry for many years and has been in the Valley since the summer of 1931- He at one time was shop manager for the old Valley Neon Co., but bought out the receiver and a number of partners he has had In the business since. The in dustry in advancing all the time be cause it is a comparatively new one ! ! FLY TO MEXICO AT REDUCED RATES! Miller Invites Public To View Leonard Models Electric refrigerator purchasers, who believe In taking just as much pains in selecting the right pro duct as they would if they were buying an automobile, should ins pect the new 1935 Leonard models now on display in the showroom of the Miller Radio Shop, according i to Mr. N. A. Miller, of the company. “These new Leonard refrigerators contain some of the most interest ing developments the refrigeration industry has ever seen,” Mr. Miller declared, and everyone should ins pect them, if for no other reason than to acquaint themselves with the great progress which has been made in making the modern elec tric refrigerator one of the most important pieces of home equip- j ment.” Beauty of design, efficiency of! operation and economy of funda-1 mental in every Leonard model, hej declared, and the wealth of conven-1 lence and time saving features make these refrigerators unusually ap-! pealing to the average housewife.! An Indication of the high rank held by the Valley school may be had from the fact that it has drawn students from as far away as Minne sota. Arizona. North Carolina. Ar kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Cali fornia. As a matter of fact all these states were represented in one class. So high are the standards of the Valley school that students, no mat ter where they are from, can go back to their native state and meet all the requirements of local laws, Mrs. Holtry points out. The standards are high as to length of training, quality of the work required and the equipment provided for use of the students. Mrs. Holtry operates on the theory that students should have the latest equipment with which to do their work so that they will be at home in any modem shop in which they might be employed or in any shop which they might themselves set up. Diplomas are given upon satisfac tory completion of the required work. The students receive 1.000 hours of training over a six months’ period which fits them for a proper exer cise of their chosen business wheth er they remain in the Valley or go to some other state.
