PWA PROJECTS COMPLETED IN TEXAS_AREAS 99 Other Programs Are Under Way At Present In This State FORT WORTH, July 19. UP—'The state PWA office has announced that projects costing $3,825,020 have been completed In Texas and that 99 projects totaling $21,627,932 are under construction. O. C. Dallas county, grant only for $24,545 for a building, and Nacogdoches Independent School district, loan and grant for $36,000, building. Contract documents for Farwell school equipment and specifications for a San Antonio school were re ceived and bids on them will be opened Aug. 9, the office an nounced. FEDERAL HOUSING LOANS SOUGHT FORT WORTH. July 19. UP— The Federal Housing Adminitsra tion in Texas was busy during the last 30 days with more thrfn $1, 000,000 in applications for new con struction or refinancing loans re ceived. p E. T. Stearns, executive assistant state director, said that during this period. $500,000 worth of commit ments were issued. He said there had been 1.026 applications sub mitted for a total of $4,602,000 worth of insured mortgage loans since the second section of the housing act was put into effect early last spring. Texas housing offices have issued commitments to Insure 494 loans for $1,828,000 of which 41 per cent were for new construction or pur tfr** > of existing buildings, the of fice said. C. Dancy of Cameron county in an address oeiore tne annual conven tion of the South Texas County Judges and Commissioners associa tion here Thursday. The carrying charges on this big debt, Judge Dancy declared, can be reduced at least two peroent by the proposed refunding plan. Most of the road bond indebtedness at pres ! ent carries 5*tt percent, and it would be an easy matter to reduce this to 3'« percent on the refunding issue, he stated. The association is seeking to ex pedite with all possible haste the works-progress movement in Texas to get needed public improvement*!. Construction of roads with federal a;c is being stressed at the two day convention. “Dependable all-weather feeder loads to our state highways will get irvorable consideration under the YVPA.- Judge W. R. Nelson of Carthage told the association. Cameron county is represented at the convention by Judge Dancy. Commisioner Grover Weikel of Las F-esnas. Commissioner Sam Bell of Brownsville. Purchase of Dredge Decision Postponed iSnerval to The Herald) HARLINGEN. July 19. — Arroyo Navigation district commission has indefinitely postponed decision on the purchase of a new dredge, it was officially announced Thursday. Postponement was due largely to the fact that Joe L. Penry, Jr. , chairman of the commission, was called to Fort Worth by the serious illness of his father-in-law. and left the Valley Thursday morning. Dissension became evident Thurs day among commissioners regard ing the type of dredge to be pur chased and the employment of workers.
