Aug. 14.—<J&— Several thousand remaining residents of the valley below the Ovada dam, which hurst Tuesday with an estimated loss of 250 lives, fled in terror to mountain refuges Wednesday as a rumor spread another dam above Ovada had collapsed. The terror - stricken populace broke through ranks of police and soldiers and commandeered even vehicle and animal with which they could depart to the surrounding mountains. The quintet, charged with theft from a number of stores throughout Hidalgo county, is com posed of Jose Rodriguez, fined $135.75; Roberta Dominguez, fined $135.75; Luz de la Rosa, fined $135 75; Santos E. Rodarte. fined $48.75; and Juanita G. Garcia, fined $45 35. Upon release the five will be turned over to Cameron county of ficials. as they are wanted in that county on similar charges. The Grand Leader store of Wes laco. the F. W. Wool worth store, of McAllen, and the Fair Store, of Mercedes, were th» stores from which merchandise was stolen, and for which the fines were assessed. The group, from San Antonio, ar rived in the Valley sometime Sat urday morning.
