Berry-Duncan Nuptials Said In Mission rrSoecUl to The Hen Id) MISSION, Aug. 29. — Miss Helen Duncan, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Logan Duncan, of this city, and Mr. Curtis Berry of Oklahoma City, Okii.. mere married at the First Christian church here Wednesday morning, at ten o’clock in a beau tiful ceremony. A vocal solo “I Love You Truly” by Mrs. S. L. Hardin, was accom panied by Robert Osborn of McAl len, at the piano, with obligato by Mr. Cifford Peterson. Rev. LcOrand Pace, pastor of the First Christian church of McAllen, read the marriage service. The bride, who was given in mar riage by her father, was beautiful In a velvet wedding gown, with train, and was attended by her sister. Miss Helen Duncan, as maid of hon or, and Mrs. Orville Cox of McAllen, matron of honor. With little Miss Betty Elly Bent •en tu. flower girl. Miss Janet Cald well, Iris Volx. Mary Jane Waite and Rennie Berry acted as brides maids, while the groom's brother. Mr Leo Berry, was best man. Other attendants were Messrs Orville Cox. Levi Walker, Billy Duncan and James Wood. After the ceremony members of the wedding party were entertained at the Mission hotel at a wedding breakfast by the parents of the bride. Mrs. Berry Is a popular member of the social set having spent prac tically all her life here, with the exception of the years she was in college preparing for her work she had planned as a music teacher, while Mr. Berry is a Junior in the Oklahoma University. The young people left immediately after the breakfast for a wedding trip and will be at home in an apartment in Oklahoma City. • • • Mrs. Henderson Woods returned Monday lrom Louisiana, where she has been spending the summer with her son, Roilin and family. Mrs. Clarence Ashley came home the first of the week from Fort Col lins, Colo., where she had been •pending the summer. Mr. and Mrs. “Buck*’ Weathers and little daughter are here for a visit with Mrs. Weathers’ parents, Mr and Mrs Friedrichs. Mrs. Harry Stebbins left the first of the week for San Antonio, after •pending her vacation here with her brothers. Al and Charles Volz and their families. Mrs. Rose LeLachuer returned this week from a vacation spent in Colorado. Mrs. James Pealing and her daughter. Miss Florence Huff re turned Monday from a three • months’ vacation In Kerrville. Mrs. H. H. Hargrove and sen ■pent the weekend in Mlslson with relatives and friends. Mrs. W. R. Buck left this week for Harlingen where Mr. Buck is located. Mrs. L. Berry, mother of Mr. Cur tis Berry, her daughter. Miss Ren nie Berry and her eon, Mr. Leo Berry, who were here in attendance at the Berry-Duncan wedding, left far their home in Oklahoma City Thursday. -o Miss Adams Is Hostess For Party Event Miss Juanita Adams was hostess Thursday evening at a slumber party at her home. Each truest was requested to prepare a stunt, and a prise was given for the best one. Mias Lucille Canon was presented with the trophy. Other diversions of the evening were candy making, and the popping of pop com. A •upper was served at midnight. Mrs. Paul Cowan left Uu*t week to Join her husband near Tyler where he will be employed in gov ernment erosion work. A. L. Johnson left Sunday for Austin where he will Join his fam ily who have been there for a few weeks. Alter a week s visit with relatives they will return to Wes laco. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Carter and family left Wednesday for Alabama where Mr. Carter expects to go into the grocery business. Mrs. J. A. Reed and children re turned Monday from a week’s visit in Brownsville with her parents. A sister from Oeorgta was also a guest there. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Nichols left last weekend for Alabama where Mr. Nichols will reenter the hos pital for medical observation. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Edwards and family spent last week-end in Gal veston with Mrs. Edwards’ brother, Luther Nolan. They were accom panied by Mrs. E B Trummer who visited relatives in Houston. Mr. and Mrs. W. H Baxter. Sr , and son. William, spent last week end In Corpus Christi visiting rel atives. Luther Hughes underwent a ton sil operation Saturday. Carr, entertained the Entre Nous bridge club this week. During the afternoon Mrs. E. H. Fairer held high. in addition to the dub members those present were Mrs. A. H. Lamm and Miss Mayme Liles. The next meeting of the dub will be with Mrs. J. E. Craven. • • • Among church meetings of the week was that of the First Method ist with circle number one meeting in the home of Mrs. J. M. Graham when plans were made to serve a dinner Friday at noon September 6 in the dining room of the church. Following a program refreshments were served. Circle number two met In the home of Mrs. Marie Fitch when a musical program was the feature of the meeting. Mrs. H. Alsmeyer- of Sebrlng, Florida, and Miss Grace Alsmeyer of this city were guests. In the late afternoon a tempting refreshment course was served. Circle number three was enter tained In the home of Mrs. Jack Hays in the Palm Grove when ten members enjoyed the afternoon. Plans for a garden party were made which will be given on the lovely lawn surrounding the home of Mrs. L. W. Humble In the country. • • • Miss Della Villarreal was a delight ful hostess Monday when she enter tained the Mignon dub. During the evening various kinds of needle work provided diversion, a musical program being presented in the lat ter part of the affair. Guests in addition to the dub members included Mrs. Virginia Leal and Misses Maria Aguilar, Adela and Joseflna Gonzales and Lela Villarreal. The next meeting of the dub will be with Miss Joseflna Ro drigues. • • • At a meeting of the Torch Bear er's Union held Tuesday at the First Baptist church a delicious luncheon was served at the noon hour. Dur ing the session a quilt was complet - ed which will be sent to the Buck ner’s Orphan Home in Dallas. Mrs. R. C Stone of San Antonio, a sister of Mrs. W. R. Brown was present as a guest. • • • Robert Collins has returned from a trip to San Antonio. Miss Ruth Brown has gone to Washington. D. C., where she will be the guest of her brother for sev eral days. While away she will con tinue on to New York where the will spend a short time. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hill and two children will go to Austin over the week end to be the guests at Mrs. Hill’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steph enson. While away they will also visit in the home of Dr. Lucius Hill in San Antonio for a short period. E. W. Edwards has recently re turned from San Antcnlo where he visited with Mrs. Edwards who has been confined to the Santa Rosa hospital for treatment. Mrs. Ed wards will be able to return to the Valley In the next few days. Mr. and Mrs R. B Stewart and children, Annette and Sonny, are spending several days at Bcca Chica.
