Whereas, in his inscrnfable wis dom and love, God has seen best to call from this life to the life more abundant one of our beloved mem bers, Mrs. James Workman, and whereas she was a faithful and ex emplary member of our church and society, so that by her removal we have sustained a loss that is irrepa ble, therefore be it Resolved i. Joseph Velien Bailey of the co-,>tiztion and Te:zas in structed the Senate of thte nited St:ites a sone length on the hi4torv of the Democratic party last wee:: Comparing its present sktuation in the Serate, where its members, he declared, had carried "indenendence to the point of insubordination," with the splendid discipline of the Republicans. amounting to "abject submission," he cried in ringing tones: "With such an organization pur suing such a loftly purpose, those who, intoxicated with their power, now affect to despise us shall learn that it is as true in politics as it is in Holy Writ that 'pride goeth be fore a fall.''" The Hon. Benjamin R. Tillman,: the dispensary king, arose slowly. He reproved Mr. Bailey with a glance, and said: " 'Pride goeth before destruc tion.' " Let The Congressional Record I tell the story of this incident: "Mr. Bailey-The Senator from South Carolina corrects my quot ation and I would be glad to amend by making it 'destruction' if the people will carry his amendment into effect. "Mr. Tillman--Pride goeth be fore destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.' "Mr. Bailey-The Senator from South Carolina is so much better versed in the Bible "Mr. Tillman-Than in the law. "Mr. Bailey-He is so much bet ter versed in the Bible than I am that I always yield to his correc tion." Then Mr. Bailey continued his speech, the championship in Biblic al research having been bestowed upon Mr. Tillman by the champion of the constitution. Pork is too rough for sensitive stomachs. Scott's Emulsion is the most refined of fats, especially prepared for easy digestion.
