A Brief Review of the Rapid and .Healthiy Growth of A Live_ Town. Little Mountain is a product of the. energy and determinationl which have builded the New South on the ruins left by the War Between the States. It was just twenty years ago last Oc tober that t;he first business was ces tablished in Little Mountain, sur rounded by fields of cotton and corn and potatoes. At that time the build ing of the Columbia, Newberry and Laurens railroad was' being agitated, but its construction had not yet be gun. Two years later the road was complieted to Newberry, and today, after the lapse of only a decade. Lit tle Mountain is one of the most thriv ir. to}wns along this line of railway. Not only has the growth of the town been rapid, 'but it has been substan tial. The foundations are solid. And, backed by some of the best and most fertile farming lands in South Caro lina surrounding it on all sides, and pushed forward by business men who re at once conservative and energet e. and who are public spirited, this rowth will continue steady and ealthy. Four years ago a modern cotton seed oil mill and ginnery was estab ~sed, and it has been successful. wo years ago a banking institution as organized, and under wise and cnservative management ia has the itinction of being one of the safest SE, President. A year' ago a telephone line was built out oif Little Mountain down towards Peak and Sprinz ill,I in Lex ington county. The town derived its name from the mountain, which is about a quarter of a mile from the depot.
