The Fireiess Cooker.
There should be a fireiess cooker
in ovorv titphpn in thp land because
it does away with much of the drudgery
which three meals a day three
' hundred and sixty five days a year
ordinarily entail. It is absolutely reliable.
Think what it is to cook without
having to stay in the kitchen to
watch the food or feed the fire. A
tireless cooker is a faithful friend because:
1. It is econoicmal. It saves aoout
90 per cent, fuel used in cooking.
2. It is economy of labcr.
3. -It is economical because there
~ is no evaporation of food cooked i i
it.
4. It developes flavor in food, Long
slow cooking developes fine flavor in
many foods.
5. A fireless cooker means that

cooking is going on without increasing
the heat of the kitchen on the hot-1
test summer day. All the heat is shut
off in the box with the food, -doing the
legitimate work of cooking- instead
of pervading the whole kitchen to the
discomfort of the housewife.
6. A fireless cooker makes it easier
to do without a servant.
Now the question:
How May a Fireless Cooker Be Made?
Select a box, bucket, keg or oarrei,
made of sufficiently heavy material to
admit of having hinges and a hasp
put on it. It should have a wellfitted
lid. The box should be without
large cracks. If desiied several sections
may be made in box. A lini...g
on inside of box prevents air and dust
from finding their way in. -Pack the
bottom of boxes with several inches
of insulating material, newspaper
crushed and torn and packed close,
or c tto 1 seed hulls, best. Next select

closely around it to the top of the
pail. Cover the packing material
with a cover made, of cardboard, thin
wood, or zinc. Make a cushion to fill
the space between the top of the vessel
and packing and tlie lid of the
cooker. The cooker is now ready for
