N. C., are immediately attracted •<> the curb market as one of the principle show places in the city writes J. W. Willis, former Hen dersonville visitor in his .home pa per. The Talladega Daily Home, a copy of which has just been re ceived here. Mr. Willis, praising the curb market here even goes so far ns to ask why the farmers of Tal ledga county cannot work for such an institution of their own. Continuing in his article, which j is captioned “A Wonderful Insti tution”. Mr. Willis says: “This market is centrally locat ed on a lot in a building that be longs to the farmers in their co operative organizations. The build ing is about 100x30 feet in size, and lets booths for 120 sellers and every inc hof it is occupied on Saturdays, but with some few er sellers on Tuesdays and Thurs days. They sell four hours, from 7:30 to 11:30 a. m., and on Sat urdays the sales frequently run above $400.00, and from $200.00 [to $300.00 on other days. “While the market (joes its hig hest business during the summer ; tourist season, it goes on all the ! year round. 1 "In this mancet one sees a wwu dering display of vegetables, fruits and flowers, and an endless variety of other products of homo and garden. The fruits, flowers | ar.d vegetables show a perfection I in quality almost unbelievable to visitors from other less favored sections. Everything sold her must be produced at home and in Hen derson county. No one can buy and re-sell. They sell only their own products. “Many beautiful art-crafts are represented by the baskets, mats and rugs on sale there. “These people arc very versa tile in creating beautiful and use ful things which are sold to tou rists by the thousands. “Nature hasn’t done all of this for these insrlligent, thrifty farm ers. They have come to this high degree of perfection by many years of hard work, careful scien tific culture, and close cooper ation. They are helping to make Hendersonville one of the most ideal summer resorts in the world by furnishing to the visitors per fect food, while God furnishes the I pure water and health giving air. | At the same time they are filling i their pockets with good money. “Each seller pays five per cent of his (usually her) sales to the co-operative organization, out of which the market pays city and county taxes, amounting this year to $60.00 and the salary of a young lady who presides over the market, makes change and checks up on sales. “Why cannot Talladega farm ers work toward such an ideal as this?” There is no substitute fot newspaper advertising.
