The personality that his closest friends know is roughly quaint and lovable, and the anecdote that they tell as most characteristic of Admi ral Evans, the man, his love of fun and dislike of mean-spiritedness and snobbery, but which he protests Is as greatly exaggerated as the death of Mark Twain, Is that of his going alone in ordinary street clothes for a visit to Trinity Church, says Hamp ton's Broadway Magazine. No usher being in sight, he seated himself in a pew well in front. A man with two ladies sought the same pew a little while later, frowned at the admiral as that warrior arose oplitely to al low the women and their escort to pass him and seat themBelves in the same enclosure. The man continued to stare and frown at the intruder, and finally drew out a notebook, tore off a leaf and wrote ibriefly upon it, handing it with a sudden gesture to the sailor. Among them being the Peerless Potters, aerlalists; .the Honey-Mora troupe, aerialiats; the McDonald family, 'bicyclists; the Or ton troupe,' wire walkers, clowns, jug glers and trapeze artists; the Suigo moto family, Japanese performers; Herzog's high schooled horses, direct from their long run at the Hippo drome, New York city; Geisler's com edy and dancing elephants; Rumley's trained Siberian bears, stag hounds, llamas, zebras and other animals in a big combination act; Setler's edu cated! Shetlands; Mile Finl's Arabian stallions and the wonderful Pizini troupe. The performances will be the same as those given In San Francisco in every particular, and to which 279,873 per sons paid admission to see during the phenominaj run of sixty perform ances, in that city of the big circus. By arrangement with the big amuse ment combine, Norris and Rowe will be the only big circus to visit this section this season. 75tl.
