G. N. Amis, tbe contractor, is tear
ing down (thie old adobe residence
that faces the new Baptist church on
North Pennsylvania avenue. It is an
old timer, one of the first houses
built in Roswell, but like all the rest
of its class, is giving away before the
advance of modem improvement.
The old house was built about the
ear 18S8 by the1, late J. C. Reed, of
this city, and was afterward occupied
by Dr. Bearup and later toy G. R.
Young, who rwas a pioneer settler
here and register of the Roswell land
office in Cleveland's first administra
tion.
The property is now owned by Miss
Jordan, of Maine, who is now visiting
the family of her uncle, George W.
Stevens, of east of town. She will
have a six-room, frame -bungalow
built on the lot for rental purposes.

KANSAS CITY SOON.
Railroad men who are In close com
munion with the Santa Fe officials
at Kansas City report that a big
change in railroad management is
soon to take place on the Pecos Valley-
lines. They state that on Thursday
October 15, the Pullman service of
the Newton-Carlsbad run will be Jen
gthened so as to make the run ex
tend from Kansas City 4o Carlsbad.
This will enable passengers to buy
through Pullman tickets from Kan
sas' City to Carlsbad and to board a
car anywhere along the line and ride

bad, beginning November 1.
It ia reported In local railroad cir
cles that a big change in the time of
trains will go into effect within the
next two weeks. If the report from
Newton is true, there will no doubt
be a good change in running time,
for the afternoon train could -reach
Roswell earlier, and would not have
to leave so early in the morning for
the norih. These changes would be
welcome to most all concerned in
Roswell. Still another report is that
f&e passenger crews are soon to make
through Roswell to Carlsbad both
ways.
