what kind of treatment they get? Just
what a young doctor can give them as he
goes through the insane asylum corridor
like a "conductor through a railroad car"
- that is, the quiet patients get that. The
restless ones are handled with more posi
tive cruelty. Hardly any are restored to
health and usefulness. At least fifty per
cent can be. H. C. Ruttcr of Ohio, C.
G. Brink of New York, and H. J. Sommer,
Jr., of Pennsylvania, noted alienists, describe
in Pearson s Magazine for January, the
iniquitous treatment of the insane in State in
stitutions. Read this story. It tells of as
tounding inhumanity right here under your
eyes. Also, there is a money side of great
importance.
