And it is Not Probable That He Will Be Stationed Elsewhere. Will Re turn to This City in a Few Days. Sr. Mallen, the Mexican consul here. who has been in the City ot Mexico for several months, wired his secre tary, M. N. Velarde, here that he ex pects to return to El Paso in a few days. He is now waiting for President Diaz to return to the capital from Cuer- navaca. where he has gone for a rest. Mr. Velarde says he does ont believe there is any truth in the report that Consul Mallen is to bo removed from El Paso and placed in Yucatan. Mr. Mallen has been in this section of the countiy all his life and has prop erty here that he wants tn look after. It is not bel'eved that the president will order this change against the will of Mr. Mallen and it is oositivelv known that he wants to remain in EI Paeo. There may be some political changes but not the change mentioned in the rumor. Mr. Mallen has had a great d?al of trouble during the past year. His wife died here last September and his sister, who has been keeping his chil- J cut in Mexico uity. Alert there a few days afttr be. arrived there. He has since bene in consultation with Pres ident Diaz about the contemplated chaneos and has had to be absent from his office for two months. PRINTING INKS. Next Season This City Will Probably Get All the First Class Shows. Dave A. Weis, manager of the Grand opera house, has just returned from a trip to Little Rock, Ark., Texarkana, Waco, and Austin. Mr. Weis visited these places for the purpose of look ing over the theatrical field and inci dentally acquiring a few new houses. In this he was successful, for con tracts have been closed by him for the lease of the Myar opera house at EI Paso and the theater at Waco. At the latter place Mr. Weis has formed a partnership with Jake Schwartz. The El Paso house he has secured for a term of three years and the final papers in the lease will be signed up in a few days. With the Texarkana. Waco, El Paso and San Antonio houses and several others in this state and outside states, he will form one of the best and most compact circuits in the south. It is very probable that he or his partners will erect several new houses. Where houses are to be built Mr. Weis is not yet prepared to state. He be lieves, however, that the circuit will form a very profitable investment, as the present season has been a prosper ous one, considering this has been a presidential election year, and that is considered the strongest opposition to the theatrical business. With the im proved conditions of the new year and future bright prospects, it is believed the theatrical business in Texas the coming season will eclipse all former years. Much of the success of the pres ent season may be attributed to the ex cellent line of attractions which the eastern managers have sent down this way, for the managers have finally re alized that the Texas folk want some thing good. San Antonio Express. CHRISTIAN CHURCH. The meeting at the Christian church grows more interesting with every series. Two were baptized this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Sanders is doing some very fine preaching. All are invited to attend these ser vices. THE PROTRACTED MEETING. Services at the First Baptist church were well attended yesterday. Pastor Mil Mean preached at both houses. Miss Hoffman sang a beautiful Scotcn solo, at the evening service. Rev. Chatan will preach this afternoon at 3 p. m. The evangelist is looked for tonight.
