Gillingwater, business man ager of Jane Corcoran in “Pretty Peggy **, was a pleasant visitor to the city this morning. Mr. Gillngwater (anticipates a large house to greet Pretty Peggy in Grand Junction. Winfield Hubbard, a young man well known in this city, where he formerly resided, is now at Cham pagne, Illinois, taking a course in chemistry. Until lately Mr. Hubbard has been a student in a school of pharmacy at Chicago. Clarence Littlefield and L. H. Rippoy of Stafford, Kansas, arrived in the citv last night and will spend some days here. Mr. Littlefield is traveling for the benefit of his health and his friend Mr. Rippey, is accom panying him in his travels. The yonug ladies’ sewing society of the Catholic church will meet this evening at the homo of Miss Laura Volmer on Grand avenue. The young ladies are working faithfully for the success of the Catholic fair which will be held the last week in the month. Mrs. James Roberts, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. H. S. Headerson for the past week, leaves tomorrow for her hom n in Idaho. Mrs. Roberts is widelv known in the city and her visit to Grand Junction has been greatly enjoyed by her many friends. There will be five sections of num ber 5 on the Rio Grande road tonight. It is the close of the tourist excur sion season and tickets are being sold all thronghont the east. The Rio Grande has orders to receive ninety > tourist cars between last night aud next Monday night, euroute from the east. At an early date the fruit stand of Mr. Dnree’s at tiie depot will be clos ed down for the season. Arrange ments are being made whereby a dis play of agricultural products of the valley aud pieservea fruit can be viewed by the tourists at the fruit stand during the winter months. Such an exhibition will do much good. A man is in the city today, secur ing members for an organization known as the Business Men’s Peabody Law aud Ore or league. Mrs. Griswold’s embroidery classes have been largely attanded this week, and will be continued for ono more week only. Last night at the meeting of the Woodmen of the World the big log rolling to bo held in the city next mouth was the principal themo of dis cussion Palisade aud Fruita lodges have appointed committees to confer with a committee from the local lodge regarding the affair. Saturday night a committee from this lodge will go to Fruita and meet a committee there aud then on Monday night the committee will confer with representatives of the Palisade lodge. These meetings will result in the ar raugment for a joiut conference to ar range the final details for the log roll* ing The affair promises to be one of the biggest events in western slope Wood men of the World circles. The three lodgos propose to have a monster log rolliug in Grand Junction about Nov ember 17th.
