HE FACES A SERIOUS CHARGE (Sentinel's Special Nows Service) Steamboat Springs. Colo., Nov 7.-According to stories told by the parents of 10-year-old Bella Wall, J. B. Allison, a school teacher living ou the mesa south of this city, is alleged to have attempted an assault ou the little girl at the home of a Mrs. Collins last Sunday. The child had been sent by her mother, Mrs. David Wall, to get some butter at the Collins home. Mrs. Collins was not at home. Allison, It is claimed, was the only one there. It Is stated by the girl that Allison attempted to take liberties with her, but that when she screamed Allison went away. The girl ran from the Collins home to her mother and told her of her alleged experiences. David Wall, father of the girl, wrote a uote to Allison asking that he leave the community at once. He agreed, it Is said, to do so if the mat ter was kept quiet, but has taught Jn the school for two days since. The father of the girl stated that inas much as Allison only attempted an assault ho would be satisfied If Al lison got out of the vicinity. B.—One of the most promising and largely attended meetings yet held In the Interests of the Intercostal canal was opened here today under the auspices of the Interstate Inland Waterway league. Large delegations are here from all the interested cities in Texas aud Louisiana and lively interest is mani fested in the result of the meeting by the citizens in every part of the coast country in the two states. C. S. E. Holland, a Victoria banker, is president of the league and will pre side at all the sessions, which will extend through tomorrow. One of. the principal speakers will be N. J. Sanders, member of the board of di rectors of the National Rivers and Harbors congress, who will tell of the work of that body. It is prob able that a large delegation of Texas and Louisiana men will represent the Interstate Inland Waterway league at the National Congress, which will meet in Washington early next month. Delegates to the present meeting are firm in the belief that the In tercostal canal project In Texas and Louisiana will be realized wlthdm a few years. The plan has already been practically approved by the national lawmakers, through ap propriations covering certain sections of the route. The league Is work ing for a depth of not leas than nine feet, and the purpose of this meet ing is to arouse public opinion with a view to getting the government to speedily complete the project In ac cordance with the original plans of the league. IS CHARGED WITH BIGAMY (Sentinel's Special News Service) Greeley, Colo., Nov. B.—For the third time within a month Hershel Whetstone, a young farmer, is wanted by the sheriff, this time on a charge of bigamy. Whetstone was arrested ten days ago on complaint of 17- year-old Miss May Flowers. He was released following his marriage to the girl and then disappeared. Yesterday James Flowers, father of the girl, received a letter from Crossville. 111., signed by Mrs. Her shel Whetstone asking information about the alleged marriage cere mony. Flowers immediately had a war rant is ued for Whetstone, charging him with bigamy, but his wherea bouts is unknown. Previous to his arrest on the charge preferred by Miss Flowers, he had been arrested at Severance for being Implicated In a fight some weeks ago. B.—Rear Ad miral Henry Ware Lyon, command ant of the Mare Island Navy yard, San Francisco, retires from active service today by operation of the age limit. Admiral Lyon is the first of three naval officers of this rank who will retire this month, the others being Asa Walker, superintendent of the Naval observatory, who will reach the age limit next Wednesdy, and Admiral A.
