But every {one who read Mr. DBryan's New York speech knows that he did not an nounce himself as in favor of gov ernment ownership at the present time or in the immediate future Rather he stated that we would try regulation first, and that 1t was not a party question. o fact he doubted whether any considerable body of even democratic votes favored gov ernship. His exact words were, in part, “That railroads partake so much of the nature of a monopoly that lha')' must ULTIMATELY be come public property, and he managed by public oflicials in the interest ol the whole community, I donot know that the country is ready for this legislation. |do not know that a magority of miy own party favors it.” The great majority of citizens feel like Mr. Bryan, that we will try regu lation first. 1f the railroads will not submit to regulation they must he owned by the people, and we sus pect they will not submit. But be canse Mr. Brvan states what he be lieves will ultimately happen on a certain topic is not ground for charg ing him with cowardice in not dis ussing it in this campaign. Colorado Transcript—Among the names of possible candidates for the ! supreme bench, none has been more favorably received than that of Dex ter T. Sapp of Gunnison, who is be ing pushed for the democratic nomi nation. He has proved his ability on the bench, and as state senator from his district. Always a friend of newspaper men, he will find but little opposition from even republi can journals. As the state convention approaches public sentiment is metting toward Nenator Sapp as democratic nominee for justice of the supreme court. It is not alone his weli known ability as a lawyer and personal popularity, but Lhis action in the last two Colo rado legislatures, that is bringing strengtii. The speeches that he made, the bills he opposed and the ones he favored are known to the people of the whole state and they like his record. The chances are that he will be nominated almost without opposition. cimie———— Everybody likes watermelons Eeveybody wants watermeions Everybody can eat watermelons .
