Camden To Give Great Bar
becue.
The biggest political barbecue ever
"jHilled'otT" by one man is that set for
August 20lh, when Mr. Johnson X. Cam
den, State Racing Commissioner, will
have as bis guests 20,000 democrats. lie
has made all of his arrangements to
launch the barbecue for the above date,
and it is thought that he will coinciden-
lally announce his entry into the race
for the democratic nomination for U. S.
Senator. The big barbecue will bo giv
en at Spring II ill, his Woodford county
home, and if Mr. Camden's plans carry
he will have as his guests the democrat
ic governors of every democratic State
in the Union, besides prominent demo
cratic statesmen from Washington and
other cities. The barbecue will be
'some affair," and the number of beeves
and sheep and lamb to be slaughtered is
appalling, but as Mr. Camden is a man
of millions, the question of expense is
not to be considered. He has just an
nounced that he has given the use of
part of his estate for the colored fair as
sociation of Versailles and thai the col
ored fair will be held there late in Au
gust.

leaders in recent mutinies at Sing Sing
prison, were removed to Auburn and

Howard Elliott, president of the

A resolution reafliming the Monroe
Doctrine was offered in the House by
Representative Clark, of Florida.
Four children of Mrs. John Cooper,
of Townsend, Tenn., died from the
bites of a rattle snake.
Rev. B. F. Whiteman, one of the old
est Methodist preachers in Pulaski
county, is dead at Science Hill.
Clement Koors, a "lifer" who escaped
from the Frankfort penitentiary twenty
one years ago, and has been at liberty
ever since, has given himself up.
