New Currency BilL The Administration currency bill. whioh passed the House by a vole of 280 to 81 practically as proposed would elim inate the present American bank note system, under which banks issue cur rency against government bonds, and es tablish a currency, lo be issued by 12 Federal reserve banks, based on sound commercial paper, which tbe govern ment assumes the responsibility of re deem iug in gold or lawful money. It would place practically every phase of banking under the control of a Feder al reserve board of seven members to be appointed by the President, and a council of bankers which would have only advisory powers. The system would be administered through the reserve banks, situatf d in 12 geographical di visions of the country, each capitalized at about 13,000,000, which capital must be subscribed by the banks in the re serve district At the eleventh hour the House wrote into the bill a disclaimer of any inten tion to alter the gold money standard fixed by law. Miss Marguerite Caperton, daughter of Rear Admiral Caperton, U. S. N., has invented the latest dance, the "lame duck," which is being accepted with much enthusiasm in Newport. The "lame duck" has its origin in the one step and is similar in a way, but it is danced to watts time. It has a gliding motion and an occasional low dip with bended knee, and is most graceful. Its conventional name is "valse canter," but has been more familiarly dubbed 'lame duck." Mrs. "Kit" Chenault Entertains. Mrs. Christopher D. Chenanll enter tained Saturday with an informal aft ernoon gathering from a few kinsmen in honor of Mrs. Samuel Cochrane and Mrs. Smith of Dallas, Tex,, and Mrs. McEloy of Kansas City who are here for a visit to their sisters, Mrs. William Rhodes and Mrs. Edward Rogers. It has been a long time since they have all been together and the little gathering yesterday was a very happy reunion. The beautiful old home on North Limestone street was decorated with plants and a quantity of autumn flowers and in the dining room tbe Japanese idea was carried out attractively. Tbe table, covered with lace, pieces, was set with elegant Japanese and Bohemian china, with nasturtiums as tbe center piece, also carrying out the rich red and yellow tones.
