Some Stiff Sentences. In the Police court this morning, Mrs. Mary Dargavel was fined $100 each in three cases for violating the local option laws. James Story, Jesse Edgenton, Ike Fife and John Jones caught a fine of $5 each for being drunk and disorderly. Charles Easly was fined $50 and given 30 days in jail for violating the local option laws and attempting to shoot a brake man, lie had nine quarts of whisky when arrested. Florence uutier sgainst the Richmond Lumber Co. for le vying on her automobile for thedebt of another party resulted in a verdict in her favor of $2,200, $350 as damages and $1,350 for the machine, which may be returned to credit the latter amount. The other civil cases tried since last report have been of an unimpertant character. . Like a woman who when she wills she wills and thinks an end of it. Judge Ben ton willed that the trial of Brack Mau pin for the murder of James Farris should be tried at this term, notwith standing the many adverse circumstau ces, and it was begun at noon today. Seventy-two men bad been summoned from Clark and all seemed to have res ponded. After the preliminaries, the selection of the jury be gau at 2 o'clock and was in progress as the Climax went to press. Judge Benton hoped to have it completed in time for the rest of the Clark county men to return on the 5:07 train. The Commonwealth is repre sented -by her astorney, B. A. Crutcber, Smith & Smith and A. Floyd Bird, the latter of Lexington Maupin's lawyers are Messrs. Tevis Cobb, Wallace & Wal lace and John Noland. The trial will presumably not end before Friday., or Saturday. Ths juries have been dismissed till Saturday and the murder case of Sid Winkler was continued to that day. Boxes For Sale. Painful Accident Sunday afternoon while walking on the pavement in front of Scott property corner of Third and Irvine streets, Mrs. Georse W. Pickets stepped on a banana peel and fell, sustaining, a painfull but not serious accident. Her right hip wis bruised and left wrist badly sprained. She was conveyed to her home being un able to walk and will be confined sever al days. What Parcel Post Did A L3xin;ton womtn who has some twenty-five boarders and who has been paying 30 to 40 cents per pound for but ter solved the problem by placing an order for butter with a farmer in a joining county, which she receives twice each week in ten pound shipments by parcels post. The postage is 0 cents for each 10 pound package. The butter costs her 25 cents per pound, and with the postage added a total of not quite 20 cents per pound Lexington Herald. Automobile Accident Sunday afternoon Mr. W. T. Vaughn, accompanied by his niece. Miss Esther Curd and Miss Rachel Parrish, was en joying a pleasure ride on the Lexington pike. When about 8 miles out near the home of Mrs. Sallie Lang ford. Mr. Vaughn took occasion to look at his watch and while doing this the auto mobile ran over a ten foot embankment nd turned completely over. Both of the ladies sustained painfull injuries, their collar bones being broken besides sustaining a general shake up. Beyond scratches about the face Mr. Vauzhn escaped unhurt. Mr. Chas. Iliggins responded quickly to a telephone call and brought the injured ladies to their home on Fifth Street in an ambulance. Belue, who has been very ill with rheumatism for two weeks or more, is some belter. He was for a time in a serious condition, recovery being doubtful. His brother. Dr. Belue, of Alabama, was sent for and is at his bed side, besides two local physic ans. Mr. William Benton, of Waco, con tinues very ill. Mrs. Woi. Myers, of East Main stroet. is thought to be improving, though still quite sick. DEATHS Mamie Hackworth. the 13 months old babe of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hackworth, of While Hall died Oct. 22 of Inlocolilis, and was buried in the Williams grave yard at White Hall. The infant daughter of Nathan Whit- aker, of this county, died of stomach troble Oct. 23. Mr. Richard Van Winkle, of Big Hill, and Miss Belli Rigsby, of this city, were married yesterday. The groom is two years under his majority and the bride is just sweet sixteen.
