They're not the plotters and schemers,
who work for glory and pay but the
''utterly foolish dreamers," who dream
of a belter day. Their courage is undi
minished by waiting and failure, loo,
for after their work is finished the
beautiful dream come true!
They're the fighters who fight un
daunted for the " utterly hopeless "
caused; ridiculed, jeered and taunted,
with never a lull or a pause, but after
they've fought and perished, and after
their work is done, the cause they have
loved and cherished is lifted to fame
and won!
They know the hope and the yearning;
the sling of the blind world's scorn
but never the sunsnine burning the skies
of their vis ion ed morn. They're the
warriors, true and splendid, the fond
and faithful few whose battlesand works

following the drought of last summer
calls to mind to many weather observers
that a mild winter and a big crop year
nave always followed a drought. Fol
lowing the great drought of 1854, fires
were not required more than half the
days of the winter and the people sat out
doors in January and February. Follow

so mild that no ice was gathered. Flow.
en were in bloom in January, and in
February the peach trees wer in full
bloom and it never got cold enough to
kill the crop. Farmers pastured all the

largest ever raised. This winter follow

Why 1 Attend Church.
It is sweet on a summer's morning
when the air is aquiver with the love
songs oi the birds and fragrant with the
odor of roses blown, to hear the music
of the church going bells, an invitation
to the world-wearied to enter God's tem
ple and find peace, because the instinct
of i worship is inthe heart of man and the
church is the temple of the living God.
I go to church because I find there.
that peace which De Quincy described
as a resting from human labors, a Sab
bath of re pose, a respite granted from the
secret burdens of the heart, as if I stood
at a distance and aloof from the uproar
of life; as if the tumult and fever of
slrife were suspended; as if there brood
ed over me a dove-like and halcyon calm
I go to church because of the music
that I hear there, the mighty roll of the
great organ, mingled with the marvelous
ymphonies of that divine stringed in
strument, the human voice, untwisting
all the chains that tie the hidden soul of
harmony.
I go to churdh because I delight to
hear the teachings of the preacher, whose
soul is dedicated to God; whose field is
as wide as God's universe; whose theme
is the destiny of man, and whose words
are the oracles oi rate, marvelous is
the spell of the preacher to whom God
has given genius and consecration and
the powet of illustration drawn from the
old, sacred, immortal Book, and from
the miracles of nature, no less revealed
in the crimson-tipped flower turned up
by the plowshare of Robert Burns upon
the soil of Ayr than in the long reaches
of the star girt skies.
I go to church because "the way is
dark and I am far from home," and be
cause the church is the polar star to
light my pathway in the rayless night.
I go to church because the church min
isters not only to the spiritual but to the
material needs of life, and because it is
there that the charties that soothe and
heal and bless are scattered at the feet
of man like flowert.
I tro to church because in that atmos
phere vice and crime mither and die
I go to church because I her the teach
ings of the philosophy of Jesus, the in
comparable man; and if you sav His
teaching is philosophy and not religion.
and that He was a man and not a god.
then the philosophy ot that man has re
deemed the world from savagery and
blessed mankind with Christian civiliza
lion, and, to my mind, it is a thing
worth while to hear.
I go to chureh because there I find
consolation and hope; because I see there
the dawn and not the sunset; and it is
better for man, if the hope is baseless
and the vision but an elusive phantom,
to cherish a dream, so glorious and beau
tiful than to be weighted down and
crusheh with the quarried mountains of
the world without hope and without
God;. lion. Claud Weaver, Oklahoma.

Shopping.
' W hen 1 shop I dress in my best," ex
claimed the woman who always has the
most courteous attention from the shop
clerks. "It keeps up my spirits thro
the ordeal and it makes ths people who
wait upon me more interested and
kind."
"I think that it t only human nature
that it should make them so. I'm sure
I'd rather wait on a woman who looks
well and was in good spirits than on an
ill-dressed woman with a bored or ez
hausted air.
"Shop clerks have to watt upon to
many dreary women, 1 am sorry for
them and never add myself to the
list.
"It should be fair play on each side
of the counter. The woman behind the
counter is criticised if she is not trim
and nicely dressed, with a bright, inter
ested manner and a cheery readines to
help you out of you difficulties.
"Why shouldn't she have the right to
expect brightness and cherriness from
you?
"I find that treating shopping the way
I do, it does not tire me as it used to be
fore I came to my present stand as to
the way it should bo done.
"I often wish that I could take snap
shots of the faces of women shopping
not only of the faces, but of their gen
general appearance, and a dreary col
lection of people these pictures would
make women carelessly dressed, with
faces lined with worry, fatigue, or the
sharp, set look of bargain-seekers.",
