Department of Agriculture the wages of
farm hands in the United States have in-
creased 3G per cent, since 1907
At J. 15. Bailey's sale mules sold at
tbut a pair; horses at C) to $100; milk
cows $CS Farming implements brought
fair prices. Marrodsbur Herald.
At the sale of C. P. Hutchison horses
sold at 1115 to 1140: mules at 1125 to
1200; sheep, 17.50 to t9 each; stock hogs
about 10c a pound; meat and lard 17c to
30c a pound. Woodford Sun
Cockrell, Wilmot & Prewitt, of this
county, sold lo Brent Bros., of Bourbon,
about 100,000 pounds of hemp, which
they raised on the Bigstaff farms, at $7
50 per cwt. It was the only crop grown
in ilits county during 1913. Mt Sterling
Gazette.
A good crowd attended court Monday
and business was good. About 100 sheep
on the market, selling at 15 25 to $9.10;
12 cows sold at $50 to $75; work mules at
1250 to 1325; sows and pigs at $32 to $52.
50. Several good horses sold at $100 to
$100; big lot of plug horses, selling at
$40 to ISO and many unsold. Cynthiana
Democrat.
Jennings & Adams sale, in Harrison
county, was attended by a large crowd
Fifteen horses and mares sold for $85 to
$162 each; 5 pairs of 2 and 3 year-old un
broken mules sold in pairs at t2.i0 to
$290; a pair of blind mules brought $130;
milk cows sold at $50 to $87; 5 sows and
pigs at S0 to $53; 53 head of sheep and
lambs, $3 SO; 3G chickens 70c each; 36
ducks, 70c each; turkeys $3 each; corn,
$4.35 per barrel. Farm implements sold
high. Total sales, $3,500.
Prewitt Harris sold his celebrated
walking horse to Fields Van Meter for
. $200.. II. V. Thompson sold to . Golden
the floe brood mare, Wood lawn, and to
Jess Cook, of Lexington, a 3-year-old
stallion.. .The sale of J. II. Clelland was
well attended and good prices realized,
Dairy cows sold at $50 to .$100, average.
$70 each; one registered Jersey bull for
$70; 100 barrels corn to T. L. Holloway
at $4.32; dairy wagon, bottles and cans
were bought by Holliday, Golden &
Conkwright. Winchester Democrat.

Civil Service Examination For
Qerk and Carrier.
An examination lor clerk ana carrier
will be held at the Postoffice in this city
on April 25, 1914.
Age limit, 18 to 45 years on the date
of examination.
Married women will not be admitted
to the examination. This prohibition,
however, does not apply to women who
are divorced or those who are separated
from their husbands and support them
selves, but they are eligible for -appointment
only as clerk.
Applicants must be physically sound,
aod male applicants must be not less
than 5 feet 4 inches in height in bare
feet, and weigh not less than 125 pounds
without overcoat or hat.

serving churches and better homes. Co

succeeds least; organization, in every
phase of Jiving, from command poultry
