CAPT SAWYER TO TilE RESCUE
Clover creek from the heavj rains I
Monday night went out on a rampage
Tuesday morning sweeping out Dave
Phelps fleet one barge and his two I
gasoline boats went together The
other small crafts rode the current
safely except the new model hull
belonging to Will Pate which after
battling with the waves for several
hours broke loose about 0 oclock and
was swept out Into the river but wos
caught
Capt Sawyer enlivened the specta
tors when he took the Red Hen out
on the swift current The Red Hen
rode the waves fine and Capt Sawyer
showed his skill as a boatsman in the
way he handled her in the swift cur
rent
The gasoline boat Red Hen
went in search of the Phelps fleet and
will bring them back The river rose
for a while at the rate of 4 inches an
hour and the local raise coming on
the coal boat raise will probably make
a 15 ft stage
Farmers who have lowlands on the
creek bottoms are getting uneasy as
a good many have already broken
their ground and it is more than like
ly it will be covered by the rising
600y
logs in Clover creek which will be
rafted to come out on this rise
