died at 1016 oclock this morning at
his home 1436 Third avenue this city
Mr Cox had heed ill for several weeks
and while his condition had been con
canI I
sfdered hopeless he had shown a little i
improvement recently
Tbo news of his death caused wide
spread sorrow throughout the city
He was born in Ghent Ky sixty
seven years ago When a youth he went
to Warsaw and later with Florian
James and Luke his brothers went to
Oweuton where they became leaders in
sorial commercial and political circles
Ho was elected to the state senate and
and was prominently for Joe Blackburn
when he defeated Cerro Gordo Williams
and when Cleveland was elected presi
dent Joe Blackburn mindful of his
friend had hint appointed collector of I
internal revenue at Louisville and ho re
moved to the metropolis in 1885
Before leaving Owenton he had been
cashier of the First National bank of
that town and he soon became interested
in financial institutions in Louisville
He became president of the Mechanics
Savings Bank and Trust Company
which he organized and later he be
came president of the Columbia Trust
company which he consolidated with
his other company That company
prospered with him at its head
Mr Cox was interested in many in
stitutions He was a director of the
Louisville Traction company and a di
rector of the Springfield Railway and
Light company of Springfield 111 Ho
was appointed receiver of the old Texas I
road in 1893 aud reorganized it in 1896
Forty years ago Mr Cox was married
to Miss Kale Martin the daughter of
judge John B Martin a prominent pol
itician of Owen county and for many
years county clerk Three children
were born to them two sons Attilla
Cox Jrt member of the law firm ofI I
Traube Doolin Cox and Lieut Cox
a lieutenant in the United States navy
and a daughter who died two years ago

from the residence at 1436 Third avenue
The Rev Charles E Qraik dean of
Christ Church Cathederal of which Col
Cox was a member officiated The bur
ial was in Cave Hill cemetery The ac
tive pallbearers were selected from
among Col Coxs associates in the
Louisville and Henderson railroad and
the Columbia Trust Company The
honorary pallbearers were selected from
those with whom Col Cox had various
relations

Mrs Amy Alexander relict of
Hardin Alexander who died twenty
eight years ago peacefully passed
away at peace with her Maker and
all mankind at4 oclock Sunday
morning at her home near Buras
She was born in 1832 the daughter of
Sanford Pool near Axtel Her
seventyseven years have been busy
useful helpful ones She was the
mother of fifteen children nine of
whom survive her Her living sons
are John Jr Hustou Sanford
Morris Ben and George The dau
ghters two of whom live in Texas
are Susan Amanda and Martha
The remains were laid to rest on
the old home place Monday after

of relatives and friends
