On Thursday evening, members of the Wednesday Club gave a party in honor of Mrs. J Byrne Severs, a club member, and Mf. Severs, who ate leaving this week for their new abode in Owensboro. The party was given in the hospitable home of Mr and Mrs. Frank' C. English. A delicious salad course was served to the guests including! Mr. and Mrs English, Mr. and Mrs Severs, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Stith, of Bewleyville, and has often spent his vacations here with rela tives. HAD 108 SUPPER GUESTS. Lodiburg, Dec. 13 (Special) The supper party given by Mr. and Mrs. Grayson Payne last Saturday night was a very delightful afiiair. After supper, both the old and young peo ple enjoyed the music and games pro vided by the generous host and hos tess. There were one hundred and eight guests for supper. AUTO ACCIDENT VICTIM BURIED IN BRANDENBURG. Brandenburg. De.c. H. (Special) The body of Harry R Smith reached here Dec. 10, and was interred in the Buck Grove cemetery. Mr. Smith lived near Sellersburg, Ind., and fig ured in an automobile accident near that place on Sept. 17, when he sus tained injuries which finally caused his death. Mr. Smith was well known in Meade county where he was highly esteemed. His widow is the daughter of Wm Coleman, proprietor of the electric light plant here. She with seven small children survive him. MISS NOLTE'S MUSIC CLASS GIVES RECITAL AT ERIN, TENN. Miss Eloise W. Nolte. daughter o'f Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Nolte, who is teaching piano music in the public school at Erin, -Tenn., held her first class recital recently. The subjoined is an account of the recital clipped from the Houston County News, Erin, Tenn. "The piano recital given last Friday night in the school auditorium by Mis Eloise W Nolte's music class was an event of much merit and was largely attended and appreciated. Cornwcll, who formerly lived in Glen Dean and was tlic engi neer in charge of the construction of the Fordsville Branch line of the L. H. & St. L., died in the City Hospi tal o' Louisville on Thursday. His death was due to injuries when he was hit by a Fourth Street car on the evening previous to his death Mr. Cornwell, while constructing the branch road, was married to Miss Matgaret Dean, daughter of the late Johnson Dean, and a sister of Miss Amanda Dean and Mr. Charlie Dean, of Glen Dean, one of the most prom inent families of Breckinridge count). They have two children, a son. Dean Cornwell, of N'ew York, one of the country's leading artists, who illustrates stories and who draws covers for the largest magazines. Their daughter. Miss Mary Cornwell. is also a very talented artist and mag azine illustrator Mr. Cornwell had suffered mental afflictions which unfitted him for work. He had been separated from his family for some time but they looked after him. Mr. Cornwell built the Breckinridge-Street and Kentucky Street viaducts over the L. & .X R. R. tracks. He did a great deal of work for the Santa Fe railroad in Okla homa and Texas, and was a specialist in the use of designing of pneumatic caissons. His remains were buried in Louis ville. I BRIEF LOCAL ITEMS Bernard Lewis, an ex-soldier, has opened a shoe repairing shop in the same room with John Hall's cleaning and pressing establishment on the corner of Main and Wall streets.! Lewis, who has been following the shoe cobbler's trade for thr.ee years and more in different cities over the country, is equipping his shop with modem machinery and will have shoe shiners' chairs for ladies and gentle men. Lewis is the son of Mr. Henry j Lewis of this city, and he served over seas in the world war ' I Mr. Ed Whitehead, who was oper ated on at the city hospital in Owens boro, three weeks ago, was brought home Sunday afternoon. Mr. White head suffered a slight relapse last week, but he has shown improvement since then.
