NOBLY SAID
We deeply regret that such acts
do occur and we again express our
earnest disapproval of same As the
official representatives of this asso
riatron having its interest at heart
we call upon every good citizen to
join us m an effort to discountenance
I the outrages We are opposed to all
violations of lawEx Com Tob

TO NOCTURNAL
NOCTURNALEQUESTRIANS
EQUESTRIANS
For more than a week the night
riders have refrained from perpe
hating acts of violence and while I
seems that reason has reasserted
3 itself we want to address to such of
them as read the Kentuckian a few
friendly words of advice Do not be
guilty of any f urther violations of
the Jaw if you are as you claim
friends of the Tobacco Association
That organization is now so strong
r that its members are falling out
p among themselves and its very or
ganization is being attacked not by
the press that pleads only for lay
and order but by its own stump
speakers who are charging the offi
cers with extravagance Attacked
Y from within and arraigned outside
ii at the bar of public opinion for atroc
r ities ccmmitted by its members
U for nobody will deny that most of
t the lawlessness is chargeable to the
Irresponsible element in the associa
tionit cannot prosper in the face
> f the fierce opposition it will arouse
I everywhere if its night riders are
not suppressed Kentucky has al
ready been disgraced by crimes that
a
cause every good citizen to hang
ois head in shame Such acts of
r ti as the attacks on Barefield
Hester Edwards Moseley and
Lockert have filled the press of the
whole country with editorials on theI
lawlessness in Kentucky Special
3 correspondents have been sent here
to write up the conditions that ex
ist for eastern papers that are ever
ready to refer to Kentucky as a
d Lave id Bloody Ground
p It may be interesting to some of
you to know that there are those
who claim to have positive knowl
edge of the identity of many of the
men who have been scraping plant
beds and shooting into houses Se
crets have not been well kept by all
of the members of the various bands
Detectives who have spent much
time in visiting the localities where
you have operated authorize the
stat melt that they have evidence
to convict 80 or 40 of you if a grand
jury can be found to do its duty and
v hane of venue is granted to
some county where night riders
themselves would not be on the
juries A few more outrages land
public sentiment will force judges to
hold as disqualified all jurors who
are in sympathy with night riding
Some Gales are about ready for the
Federal Courts and unless you are
courting disaster to yourselves and
detraction for the association the
timt has come to stop and give hoed
to good advice if not from the Ken
tuckian at least from the leaders of
the association in your own county
and district

Theres this important difference
In Christian county the negroes

white people who wear masks and

Another difference is that the Hop
