Here Monday.
Lucia Zora handles thirty tons of
elephants as the average person would
handle a group of kittens. That is,
she haslier huge pets under such per
fect control that their obedience to
her slightest wish seems the most
natural thing in the world. She and

ra's one can understand why the ele
phant might enjoy it, for his trainer
is not at all hard to look at.

Washington, Aug. 8. Confirmation
has reached the State Department of
the report that Germany has demand
ed a loan in gold from Switzerland in
return for coal. In official circles
here this is taken as emphasis to the
stories of financial difficulties in
which Germany finds herself at pres
ent.
Germany is in sad need of gold to
meet the obligations which she has
incurred with those neutrals with
whom she can trade; for German
paper money is no longer in favor
and the value of the German mark is
depreciating almost to the vanishing
poin4.
Switzerland is resisting the demand
and if itls pressed she is in far 'bet
ter shape than Holland or the Scandi
navian countries to meet either mili
tary or economic aggression from
Germany.

The Jefferson Circuit Court handed
down a decision which holds that the
Circuit Clerk must collect a $4 jury
fee from the successful litigant in any
case before an execution will be is
sued. The fee then is to be assess
ed against the loser and collected as
costs and returned to the winner.
