Miss Katie Murrell, who made an extended visit to Earlington, K., Nashville, Lexington and Springfield, Tenn., returned home Monday night. Mrs. Lou W. Atkins was called to Pensacola. Fla., Monday, having re ceived a message that her sister, Mrs 0. A. Bailey, was a victim of appendi citis. Mis. Tim B. Cravens suffered an at tack of acute indigestion last Friday night, and for several hours her con dition was serious. She has about re covered. Mr. W. E. Bradshaw left for Louis ville last week to resume his duties as Pullman car conducter". He did not know when he left the run that would be given him. Count Stults returned from Lancas ter a few days ago where he has ac cepted a position in the depot, that city. He will return for work in aobut two weeks. Dr. E. 1. Alper, the well-known op tician, who has been in Columbia about two months, left for other points last Monday. He is popular with his patients. Mr. Charley Coffey and wife, of Ok lahoma, arrived, on a visit, last week. Mrs. Coffey is a daug'hter of Mr. S. H. Mitchell. Mr. Coiley a half bruther of Mr. J. N. Coffey. Miss Josephine Field, of Gainesville, I Texas, is visiting relatives in Colum- bia and out in the county. She is a daughter of Dr. Geo. Fields, who was I born ancl reared !n th5s pIace Mr. C. M. Barnett and wife, who have been temporarily located in Illi nois, reached Columbia one evening last week. They came in their tour ing car, and will remain several weeks. Mr. L. H. Cabell, Miami, was in Co lumbia Monday. He was recently a candidate to represent Green and Tay lor counties in the Legislature, but withdrew on account of failing health. Miss Katherine Willis, who has been on the sick list has re covered. Knifley. The fine rains and warm weather of the last few days have been a boone to crops of all kinds. Corn is fine, but hay is lighter than for Sev.eral years. Nearly all farmers are done plowing corn, and hay harvest is on. Oats are light, owing to the dry. cold weather, in early spring. Mr. J. W. Tupman candidate for County Judge, was in this section last week. The saddest affair that happen ed in this section for many years, was the killing by lightening of Mr. R. B. Tucker and son, on June the 20th. Mr.' Tucker was a good, honest and upright man.
